my dad took my brother and i on a long summer driving trip in the early 70's i was around 15. he gave me a book to read and it was dune. i don't remember much of the drive as i was buried in the book the whole time. since then i've read and re-read all of the books more than a few times. the only one that i have only gone through once is the butlerian jihad which is also the only one i've ever bought in hardback. i was tremendously dissapointed with the first dune movie (weirding modules-aaaargh!) but i was hoping that as the technology got better that the story was too good to not get a second chance. i do wish that the new movies would not have strayed to far from the books but one the whole they were ok. i do wish they would have paid more attention to leto II's first steps towards secher nbiw, the sandtrout skin could really have been done a lot better and closer to what the book portrayed. i think that this is important groundwork to be laid down if they are indeed going to proceed with the rest of the books. thank you for the place forum in which to discuss what i've always thought is the best sci fi book series ever written
