As it was explained to me, the band doesn't see much if anything off the CDs of live shows, the reason they do it through Much Music is so anyone no matter who they are or who they know can get CDs not just the taper who was there that night or his circle of friends. Not everyone has the ability to get a copy from a friend and not everyone wants to send money and blanks to some stoner who doesn't mail them back in short order or at all. At least with this service you know you're getting quality CDs in a respectable turn-around time. Also, as the other post pointed out, they pay the Grateful Dead's publishing so who's toes does this step on, really? They still allow taping and video (show me another band who allows video openly who're touring at DSO's level) at their shows. Who does it harm to have a trustworthy outlet for shows? If the money's too steep, bring your mics or your video camera. Then you can post the files on the net and do a Robin Hood number if you wanna "fight the corporate system". I would appreciate both the board tapes from the band and the audience tapes from you! But thats just me.
