Hey guys, can't wait for you annual winter trek to Bogart's. I have 2 shows, both Cincy shows, that I have been dying to hear each time you come, 6/24/85 and 4/8/89. The first show has always been one of my favorite tapes of all time, incredible show. The second was my first of many shows. See you soon!!

Dark Star Orchestra Concert at the Houston Meridian on February 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dark Star Orchestra will be supported by Plump.

I will definitely be at this show!!

I attended many shows at the Meridian. The venue is awesome. It is clearly the best music club in Houston. The city really needed this place.

The Houston Press just awarded The Meridian the Best New Club Award. It should be a great show. Lets get a great crowd to welcome Dark Star Orchestra to Houston at the best new club in town.

They have three great rooms with views of Downtown Houston. The main room has incredible concert sound. They now just opened a ticket office. I purchased tickets at their box office for another show and avoided paying ticket master charges.

Merry Chrsitmas DSO, hope all's well and that your New Year is kind to you all. I'm writing to request several show prospects for your upcoming Columbus and Natti shows on Jan. 28-29 '05. As always any 73 or 74 would be incredible, in fact any 70's shows. The shows I'd love for you guys to recreate DSOstyle are 4/16/78 in huntigton civic center in WV. That is my absolute favorite Gd show of all time, I would love to hear it lives. I haven't has a chance to see you guys much during this past year, this would make it even more special. Though I understand that u have played it twice before. Another request is, since I love the acoustic dead and you guys seldom perform those 1980 shows, would be an 80 Warfield or Radio City Music Hall show. Anything you guys do is always great, I'll see you there. Thanks for your time
Peace

When are you folks coming back to the Twin Cities area? I am hoping to see you again soon. When, oh when, can we expect the DSO to set up at The Cabooze, First Ave, The Quest, The FineLine, or some other Twin Cities Venue. If it was going to take until Spring of '05 anyway, you guys should come over to my area = River Falls, WI. We could get you set up at the UW-River Falls outdoor Amphitheatre. First of all, I would like to thank you guys for coming back this way again. Every winter you bring much happiness to Ohio. Anyways, last years Bogarts and Newport's combo of the '76 shows was wonderful. I am travelling with some friends from Cinci to Columbus and then back to Cinci again and was hoping for at least one '73-'74 show. Maybe the 12/4/73 Cinci Gardens show and the 12/10/73 Charlotte show. Not so popular as only a snippet of both circulate. Anyways, just thought I would put my 2 cents in and see what I get. Thanks guys.

The element of surprise is always beneficial to the live experience, however when I heard that DSO solicits suggestions for show dates, I figured that I'd suggest a gem this time around. I am not sure if this interferes with the Grateful Dead live release policies, however I believe that March 24, 1990 would be a most excellent suggestion. As parts of this 3 night run at the Knickerbocker Arena (a stone's throw across the river from Troy) later became the Dozin' at the Knick release, March 24, 1990 easily became a favorite from this run. This show on Friday night in Troy would be a great way to pay tribute to a HOT three nights in Albany some almost 15 years ago...

Dear DSO,
Looking forward to your rolling through Northampton again this week. I've seen you delve into 1973 & 1984 while in town. With all the hype around 1974 these days (the GD movie DVD, the new Jerry release), perhaps you could explore that era for us as a point of comparison? Thanks.

If not, may I suggest 1975 or 1976? A Help>Slip from either of these years...mmmm.

Seems like DSO has 4 different setlist options:

1. Early 70s shows with 1 drummer and Lisa

2. Mid/late 70s shows with Lisa

3. 80s/90s shows

4. Original setlists

Has anyone out there figured out any patterns as to what to expect on a given night at a given venue? I probably shouldn't care and just go with the flow but I'm curious about this.

Eager for any thoughts...

Dear Santa Claus,

I've tried real hard to be good this year, so when Christmas (in July) comes, I hope you'll bring me a tasty and all-too-rare treat, like a Dupree, maybe, perhaps a Panama Red with John and Vasser, or maybe a High Time, an Unbroken Chain. Perhaps a New Speedway suits your jolly Santa fancy. How about a little Black Muddy, or (dare I say it) Corrinna. (Yes, I admit it. I love the Corrinna and I don't care who knows it!)

...and thanks so much for the Saint last year. That raffle is a keen idea.

peace
:)

Hey Deadheads, we need a favor. We had to say goodbye to our 15 year old black lab named Iko. Now, we cant come up with a name that was as cool as that one was for our new little guy. Can anyone come up with a dog name that has to do with the Dead. Maybe something from a song? Help. Thank you.

It's probably too late to request since the show is tomorrow night, but could you please play "Here Comes Sunshine" for the Halloween show in Atlanta? With all the depressing images we see every day on the news regarding terrorist attacks, the war in Iraq, poverty, unemployment, etc., etc., it would be really nice to hear this song to raise our spirits.
Thanks!

I did some research and the 1st DSO I saw in charleston was on 6-15-99, I was at that show and have been hooked ever since. However, in 5 years and many DSO shows later, the band has never played dark star at the music farm. It almost happened one night but rob eaton fell ill and they had to scrap the chosen show for the night and do something else, which if I remember correctly had tiny as pigpen for part of the show.

I don't have a particular show to request while keeping with the 10-30 theme since 10-30-73 was already played, just thought I would pass it on, I am sure charleston would greatly appreciate a nice long, spacey dark star.

Dear DSO,

Welcome to Charlotte!

My name is Peter and I have been a huge fan of all related experiences, songs, bands and most people in the whole Grateful Dead and surrounding world since 86'.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night! I am bringing my girlfriend who unfortunately has never really caught on (but also never had the correct exposure) to the beauty and splendor of the music's magic. It's ok though because we are all different and we should all appreciate each other's different musical tastes. However, If I could have one opportunity to perhaps "wow" her with your extreme talent and ability and Grateful Dead music,is there a compilation you would recommend for her tomorrow night (11-26-04?)

My personal favorite is a really psychadelic drawn out Scarlet in to Fire:)))) Something from the late 70's perhaps...(she likes the "In your face" experience:)

I truly thank you for what you do and look forward to a great time tomorrow night! Keep coming back!

Respectfully,

Peter

First, huge thanks to the DSO folks to returning to C'Ville! The January shows (after a 3 year absence), during a surprising blanketing of snow, were an unbelievabel treat, especially the looooong first set on the Monday show (6/26/73).

For tonight's show, perhaps revisting GD's one stop in C'Ville (9/14/82)! It included a Johnny B Goode encore, which would be perfect on Chuck Berry's birthday...which is today, 10/18!!

Or how's about some props to Boston and the folks in Beantown as they try to rally the Sox back from the dead, so to speak: (12/2/73 or one of the early 80's shows).

Hey now! I have a suggestion for the Halloween show at the Variety in Atlanta. How about 10-31-1985 from the University of South Carolina in Columbia? I know the Dead didn't do the best job with it, but I think that the setlist is pretty darn good. Tell me what you think:

1: Space> Werewolves> Music, West L. A., Mama Tried> Mexicali, Tennessee Jed, L. L. Rain> Might As Well
2: Shakedown> Playin> Ship Of Fools> Playin> Drumz> Mr. Fantasy> NFA E: U. S. Blues

I'm happy with whatever shows you do, however if you could include a filler of Shining Star, an epic moment of my Dead career than spanned over 350 shows. This is show is a must for any Jerry Head. This shining star is an epic moment in my life. You can hear Jerry's voice cracking, and the crowd singing to Jerry and Jerry singing back towards the end of the song. I get tears thinking about it. That show I had 12 of my best friends with me, today 8 of them are dead because of the disease of addiction. I am clean today and in recovery, yet when I hear this rendition of Shining Star it brings back so much emotions. If you could find the time to play Shining Star as a filler on either of these nights, it would be an epic moment for me.

Also, Nick, I am so sorry my feeble and warped brain caused the hiccup that resulted in me refering to you as Dean!!??!?in my last ramble. . .sorry for the confusion, glad i saw you to make it up in person.

Hey, i got a better idea. . .why don't you folks show up at this coming weekend's smokin seafood bash at Nelson's. . .I'm sure Evan wouldn't mind, and you don't need to tell anyone else. . .it'll just be our little secret, sssshhhhhhh! "Please don't be long. . ." DSO, WE NEED YOU!! ooooooHHHH I GOT EVEN A BETTER ONE, FORGET YOUR OTHER OBLIGATIONS AND COME BACK TO NELSON'S FOR eCOUSTIC'S HALLOWEEN BASH!!!! rEALLY It's okay, i'll clear with your publicist! ah well, whenever your spaceship happens to land, i hope it'll be another FANTASTIC SHOW. . . Thank you all SOOO much for coming through TULSA, OKlahoma this year. most of my better concert experiences have involved extensive traveling and i was absolutely thrilled that you all put in the time to come out and give Tulsa one of the best performances here all year. The quality and exactness in your music is incredible. I saw The Dead at Bonnaroo this year as well and i want to let you all know your quality matches that of the longtime veterans. Your devotion to one of histories greatest band brings a huge smile to my face. Hope you all enjoyed Tulsa and i certainly hope you wont forget about us next time around. once and thank you and keep it up!

to Lisa, John, Rob and band and especially Dean and Tiny

heynow; even after a 4 show tour with the dead and especially after a very constipated, republican, bad audience experience at bruce hornsby, we are 'jonesin' for you guys so bad, we can't wait to see you in cleveland on sept 2.
Do you remember us, well at least you'd remember my daughter, karen, from july 4th at nelson's: the curly strawberry blond 8 1/2 year old whose dress you signed? She has been talking about nothing but you folks, and that's inspite of an awsome deercreek show, a totally religious detroit show, and a smokin blossom show with "the boys", not to mention a hot darien lake too.
Lisa, she has a special place in her heart for you especially. . .wants to sing and dance just like you someday. tiny and dean you made her life by arranging for her dress to be signed and to all of you who signed, thank you, thank you, thank you; we are so grateful for you in our lives.

AAAAANND not that i'm trying to suck up for a purpose, cuz all that above is true. . .but just wonderin, Do you folks know if there is anyway to find front row seats for the show. . .scene pavilion ticket box and ticketbast##d are NOT very kind. . . .let me know and i can purchase. if not no worries we'll get down front for dancin somehow. . .as long as it's not as restrictive as bruce h. that was such a terrible place, audience and venue. . . .please if you ever get the chance to play cain park in cleveland hts(aka pain park or as karen calls it 'old stupid people with a cane' park) pass it up. . .mean people prevail there.
Also last request which comes from Karebear:) she wanted to know if she can make a request for the cleveland show if you're picking a show, she's love to hear one with a scarlet begonias in it if at all possible. . .she missed that 3 song set at the end of keller that night.
okay we'll stop beggin. . .

Goin with love in heart and a tune on our lips
write me at above email and so can any other kind family with help to my search.

peace all ways and bush no way

jimi

I am looking forward to catching your show at OTW in Rockford in Sept. I saw several killer Dead shows in the mid 70's and early 80's. There was one around '74 or'75 at the Univ. of IL in Champaign-Urbana, IL that was amazing. "Wherewolves of London" was one oncore. My friends and I would love to hear it again. Whatever show you play, you'll be rockin' Rockford.

Thanks and PEACE!

For the 11-04-04 show injacksonville at Freebird Cafe could you please play the Hampton, Virginia show from 4-13-84. It was an insane show with an unreal Scarlet - Fire-Estimated -drums with a really wierd space. We will keep our fingers crossed. About ten of us from this area drove up to Hampton for our first shows together years ago for a really wild weekend.

I know DSO played this show back on March 24, 1998, but that was a long time ago. I was 19 years old when my roomate @ Syracuse University said...."what do you say we drive to Hampton Virginia to see The Grateful Dead? They're playing as The Warlocks" hummmmm. So I called the venue and asked the nice person....."Who's in The Warlocks?" and her reply in a most Southern Drawl was....."Well I think just the memebers of the Grateful Dead!" The car was packed in minutes and we hit the road. Who could imagine that the boys would top the 1st show with this? So, 10/9/89 is my pick for any Colorado show.....please?

Some love and light needs sending to our family at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park. There's deep sadness there. A young man died in Kristina's arms after a fall in the state park and Evan is in Costa Rica with his critically ill father. Drop a line on their message board and let them know they are in our thoughts.

Hey looking forward to seeing you guys again in Cleveland on september 2nd! Its awesome you guys are coming so soon after the 3 days at ledges (which was great, I especially appreciated the acoustic set played when the power went out the first night).

The premise of that weekend was dylan and the dead, so how about something earlier for the northeastern ohio fans--do I dare ask for like a europe 72 show? or perhaps a may 77 or oct 78?!? WHatever you guys play, i'll be pumped - you do it for me

thanks!

have DSO really never played any show from the '60s, if they haven't then what the, that doesn't even make any sense, they really gotta play some shows from the '60s('66, '67, '68, '69) they were all wicked good; and if DSO played one of the acid test, WOW, that would be too intense

Hey, I've been having a blast seeing you guys this summer: Ripplefest was unreal, Nelson Ledges was a vacation of a lifetime, and last nights show at the Chance was ridiculous.

I've got a few requests for the Gathering next weekend.
I'm really missing mid 80's, early 90's shows.

Great Great Shows that DSO hasn't played yet:

10/17/84
9/15/85
11/21/85
3/25/93
4/7/95

Thanx so much you guys!!!

I know you get bombarded with requests, but I'm just gonna throw this one in for the hell of it. Wednesday is my birthday, and I would be *thrilled* if you could play 3-18-90, from Hartford, CT. That was a fun show!

If you don't want to do that particluar show, maybe you could just do something from the early 1990s. And something really rockin.

Thanks a lot.

I agree, a 73 or 74 show would be outstanding....if that's not in the cards here are a few outstanding shows to think about for the summerfest show tonight:

6/26/94 Vegas
highlights were:so many roads, 2nd set: victim(not a big fan), eyes!!, box, saint, TERRAPIN, WHEEL, WATCHTOWER, DEW!!!!! E: US BLUES...if you played this show people may have to jump into Lake Michigan to cool off after the 'hot show'

7/19/89, I know you played this back in 99 sometime, but this is possibly the hottest show of 1989, first and second set are absolutely scorching!!

I love the donna shows, don't get me wrong, it's just that most of us who see you guys regularly have seen way more of those years than anything else, so these were my humble requests for tonight. Why don't you come to Milwaukee more often?? And how about a Saturday night show at Navy Pier next time, it's tough for us Milwaukeeans to get down to Chicago on a Friday without feeling rushed or frazzled.

keep doing what you're doing, we will come.

I have a requests for the show tonight.....you guys have played either 'donna' shows or late 80's shows for your summerfest extravaganza's the last few years, how about one of those monster 73 or 74 shows tonight??? A little WRS, Eyes, 1/2 step, Dew, H.C. Sunshine, B.E. Women, B.T. Wind, Jack Straw, Other 1, type of shows. You know what I'm talking about. See you tonight.

Look, the main idea of this is to raise a few, well, hopefully much more than a few, bucks for a great cause.. this idea is such a PERFECT one.. but, I have to name a few tunes that I think deserve your consideration when voting. (Long story short, it's a basically bunch of songs I've rarely or NEVER heard live, but I think DSO can put some ooomph into.. that's right, OOOMPH!)

Foolish Heart (never caught one in my 74 DSO shows!)

Memphis Blues (1st of many Dylans)

Sing Me Back Home

Picasso Moon

New Speedway

Desolation Row (this HAS to be fun to sing & remember all of the 314,159 words...)

Tom Thumb Blues

Ballad Of A Thin Man!!!! (has Dark Star ever trotted this one out??!!)

So Many Roads

Victim

SLEWFOOT (who doesn't love "country-dead" ?!?!)

Don't Need Love

Long Black Limousine

B.T.Wind

and, are you ready....

New Potato (that would make my, well, millenium)

Above all, please come to the Ledges and please donate and put your votes in. I know this is the most fun I'll ever have voting for ANYTHING. All my money's going to the Foolish Heart that I've been waiting for for 5 years :)

Thanks guys

Shad.

I have completely have fallen in love with DSO. I have followed the Dead for many years and it is so wonderful to head a cover that is so very, very, very, close to the our beloved DEAD and our lost but never ever forgotten Jerry. The last show was November 28, 2003. Philly is a major "DEAD" city. I can feel the wonderful loving and kind vibes that the crowd here in Philly gives to DSO and so can DSO. Especially the Grateful Dead playing 50 shows at the legendary Philly Spectrum. Philly loves DSO ,so I hope that you will be kind and play here soon.

rumours are flying at www.jambands.ca that DSO turned down this event!
any truth to that?
posted below is from that site

Since it's now public knowledge that I was looking at DSO for an event, not July 1st CTMF, I'll let you know what the scoop is.

There's a situation where they might be available to play the Labour Day event. It would take a lot to make it happen and at this point we're leaning towards no DSO. Anything is possible and I'm looking at ways to make it happen.

That's it.

I see that you're coming here to Boston on july 13. Well, that just happens to be the 20th anniversary of my first Dark Star, July 13, 1984 at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. I checked and saw that you have never played this particular show. This would be a great time to break it out. It was a great show all around, capped with a Dark Star encore, the first one in 2 and 1/2 years. please consider the history here when you decide what show to play. Thank you, Russ
