In reply to: Beth 's message, "My poor aunt is to the point where she's living minute to minute..." on 13:25:13 08/06/06 Sun

From what I understand she had about 10 minutes memory for the last few years of her life. I believe that she could play the piano but couldn't remember why she could and they had to tell her that she could. Her doctors said that she was so healthy that she could live to 100. They were afraid that eventually the parts of her brain that controlled breathing might break down before her health.

What happened was that she tried to get out of her bed and got tangeled up in the sheets or something and took a terrible fall and broke her hip and some other stuff and caused some head trauma. From there she quickly started breaking down. The hip surgery was a disaster and she healed badly. But her memory was gone. It was totally sad.

I feel really awful for your aunt and I am very sorry for you and the boys in having to deal and witness it.

Christine
