在一切都講求自動化的當今社會中，我們對自動化的事物已然見怪不怪。
記得當初新機場開幕的時候，大家都注意到機場的所有洗手間，俱已自動化：有自動出水的洗手盤之餘，連坐廁也有自動沖水設備；你完事之後，身子一站起來，廁所便會自動沖水了！這種自動沖廁設備說新不新，但又未至於很普及。
再來就是自動皂液機。這種東西，在「沙士」之前是鮮有所聞的。「沙士」一出，全城講求勤洗手，同時又講求減少用手接觸公用事物，於是自動皂液機扑中市場需求，開始大行其道，不單止在公用洗手間大為普及，就連一般商戶門口、商場通道等，都普遍安裝，盛況一時無兩！
近日走進某商場的公用洗手間內，洗手之後發現傳統的自動乾手機居然不見了，全部由自動抹手紙機替代！只要你把手伸向機口，就會有一格抹手紙自動伸出來，不必按撥任何掣！它衛生之餘，由於每次只出一格紙，某程度上也減低了浪費紙張的情況，故相信也會大行其道。
想落，公用洗手間內可以自動的東西都幾乎已自動化了，就只欠……了。
