深夜收工回家，走進電梯，居然看到電梯內貼着一則這樣的通告（注：原文中姓名和地點皆被我略去）：
「本邨大廈護衛員某君，日前在本邨附近某交通黑點橫過馬路時，被一架客貨車撞倒，傷重不治。某君向來盡忠職守，本邨上下深感悲痛惋惜，現發起慰問金收集……」
我看到某君的名字，自問不認識他，卻仍然有一種莫名的悲慟。從通告原文看來，某君遇到意外時並非在執勤中，但既然他在屋邨附近出事，相信他當時乃在上班或下班途中；雖然不算是殉職，但似乎有關方面依然當是殉職來處理了，這一點令人感動。
殉職，向來都被視作重於泰山的。太空人殉職會引起舉世哀慟，軍人殉職會得到全國人民致哀。本地警察殉職嘛，特首和一哥都會來致祭；而去年「沙士」引起的大批醫務人員殉職，亦令全港市民同聲一哭。
有段日子，我經常在公司加班，通宵達旦；捱到迷迷糊糊，會忽發奇想：「如果我此刻倒了下來，算不算是殉職？公司上下會如何紀念我？」但諗真啲，為報館殉職嘛，大概只會用報紙為我輕疆茪w。玩唔過，還是早些收工為妙。
