《哈利波特》第三集中，哈利得到了一張神奇地圖。它神奇之處，乃可以顯示魔法學校中每一個人現在身處的位置，而且更追蹤每一步，即時更新，儼然是一部可以摺疊的手提電腦。
該神奇地圖的「法力」，在魔法學校中是屬於「禁斷的魔法」，即在一般情況下是禁止使用的。不難理解，因為它侵犯了大家的私隱，乃一件相當危險的工具。
在電影《未來報告》的世界中，人類已沒有私隱可言，政府機關透過滿布全城的掃瞄器，以掃瞄瞳孔來確定每一市民的位置。於是湯告魯斯這位逃犯，為了避開警方的耳目，逼得要去接受眼球移殖手術，索性換一對眼球、變一個身份。
其實不必靠魔法，也不用等未來，這種神奇的定位科技、這種剝奪私隱的系統，相信已默默地在開發、建立中！智能身份證上的晶片、手提電話的訊號、信用卡的磁帶等，都是可以暴露我們所在之處的隨身物品！總有一天，只要在情報機關的電腦內輸入我的身份證號碼，就可以即時看到我在那一區那一條街那一層樓；要拉要鎖，避無可避！
真有這種科技嗎？官方回應一定是：「沒有！」
