Subject: Reporting in

Greeting all --

Commander Kate reporting in from the Planet Retirement. Lovely place - I encourage everybody to proceed there with all possible speed (and with all due respect to how badly the whole savings/401k/mortgage/health care crises have kicked the s#$t out of most people's ability to retire). I am a lucky, lucky woman.

Days on Planet Retirement are spent cuddling, kissing, gardening (I dig really good holes in the ground, thus this has become my primary gardening assignment), long lovely walks, daily visits to the hardware store for stuff to fix the many things needing fixing in a 100-year old house, hugging, cooking (I've discovered a hithereto unknown joy in messing about with food - it is all Julia's fault, you know), and the amazing happiness found in the love and companionship of an extraordinary woman. Sweet it is. (Well, except for the exasperating fact that I am apparently a killer of seeds...the HME can put a seed in the ground and there are flowers or food the next day. I put a seed in the meticuloursly prepared ground, then watch and wait and water per expert advice, and I talk to them tenderly as was taught us by HRH Prince Charles, and nothing, nada, zippo. The HME is kind - she tells me it is the fault of the birds and/or squirrels and/or slugs, and/or the weather, but I have faced a terrible truth: I am Seed Killer Kate. Lately I avoid walking near the seed displays at the store, for fear I'll sterilize them all with my dread power. Sigh.)

Anyway, the whole deal with Sirens going tits up is a bummer. Glad the last survivors have found a home here with AF. And thanks to Otter for passing along the addy for this site.
