Subject: Hi Sue........just like you.......(m)
In reply to: srmagoo 's message, "Potty training question." on 13:27:47 04/11/03 Fri

I do the same as you, both parent and myself need to be doing this at the same time. I
have no problem at all doing this.

I do not use pull-ups either. I use the thick training pants and the at the beginning may
use the plastic pants w/ these. I have one Mom that bought the training pants with the
plastic already on them. The child will feel the wetness, but the wetness does not get all
over everything. In Jan. I potty trained a not quite two yr. old girl and she is doing
wonderful. I have another girl to start that was 2 in Jan. and a boy that was two in Feb.
(he is not ready yet though).

If I would leave this up to the parents......the children would go to Kindergarten in
diapers. I am usually the first to suggest it, the parents I have are all very willing to do it
at home too once I start.

My thinking is that if a child is ready, go for it. Why would you not want to????? I view
this as part of my job, and "waste management" LOL, when you have to pay for the
garbage bags to put the darn things in.

My question to all is do you use any type of reward system? My first is praise.......and a
celebration with all of the other d/c children. We all clap and sing for he/or she is a jolly
good fella....which one little girl thought we were singing for she is a jolly good
marshmallow! (sp) LOL And my second is that I have a drawer right next to the potty
that I keep many *stampers* in. When they go potty they get to choose which stamp of
the small ones they want on their hand. When they go poopy, they can choose the larger
stamps. By the end of the day they have stamps on their hands, feet, tummy, or knees.
They are so proud to show Mom or Dad at pick-up time how many times they went that
day. If the parents object to them on the child you can just do a daily chart on paper.

I make potty training a fun and rewarding time. We even have a "so and so" went poopy
on the potty party. You should see the looks on the face's of the parents when the other
kids announce this at pick up time. Once they all understand my explanation of what this
means, they are delighted in it.

Wow, this got long.........guess I have been potty training for too many years! LOL

Good ? Sue.....
