why should what jessica said make anyone ashamed to be white? everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. it seems as if whites have a negative view about interracial relationships they are racist, but blacks can say anything, and that is acceptable.i'm sorry but that isn't right, and i'm not racist. i just feel that we all should be able to have different views, and not be made to feel that if we don't agree with another person we are wrong.

Rugby faces tidal wave of lawsuits after landmark court ruling
1:48pm Friday, 13th December 2002
The Welsh Rugby Union is to blame for an accident during an amateur match which left a player paralysed for life, the High Court has ruled.
Richard Vowles, 29, was injured in the final seconds of a local derby between Llanharan and Tondu in January 1998.
Now wheelchair-bound, he had brought a damages action against match referee David Evans, for whom the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) accepted vicarious liability.
Mr Justice Morland, sitting in London, said that Mr Evans was in breach of his duty to take reasonable care for the safety of the front row forwards in failing to order non-contested scrums.
In his judgment, Mr Vowles had established on the balance of probabilities that this breach of duty was a material cause of his accident.
It is the first time that an amateur referee in any sport has been held liable in the context of an adult amateur game.
The WRU, which is considering an appeal, has warned that the the case could open the floodgates for similar actions and change the face of amateur rugby across Wales.
Afterwards, Mr Vowles, of Danygraig Terrace, Llanharan, south Wales, said: "I am just chuffed to bits. I am really pleased."
The amount of damages will now be assessed at a further hearing. Mr Vowles's lawyers said that the sum will be "very significant".
Mr Vowles, a former professional boxer, commented: "This has been dragging on for so long. I am just glad to get it out of the way. This is going to make a big difference to my life."

The intransigence of the people that be within the WRU and the few south Wales teams/clubs is laughable if it were not so serious. The Titanic had a better chance of floating after it hit the iceberg than the collection of people now involved in sorting out the problems ahead. Why not have a democratic vote of registered club supporters, AND also from those that supply the money to keep this thing going. The parochial bias shown on this website is something tha no honest intelligent person can tolerate. It is a mess and the whole thing is heading for disaster.

Filling the stadium -- dai, 22:52:59 11/16/02 Sat(80.192.14.10)
The problem with the horns would go away if the stadium was FULL -of adults as well as kids. This will only happen when we - the paying publiv had a chance of six nations tickets as well as the "minor" touring games. I suggest:
Severely limit tickets to clubs
Offer packages to the join the Wales suppoerters club - buy tickets to two minor games and get a GUARANTEED 6 nation ticket.
This will remove the feeling that non club members are second class citizens - he who attends the Welsh games should get the tickets.

Gwlad nonsense -- Tappe Henning's Psychiatrist, 08:53:01 11/17/02 Sun(203.97.2.243)
Capten Synhwyrol (From Gwlad front page):
"The Pacific Island nations, in particular, have suffered since the advent of the new eligibility rules in January 2000 thanks to the tendency of many of their finest players to move to New Zealand or Australia at an early age and sometimes end up playing test rugby for their adopted nations."
Is this wanker suggesting that these "finest players" were already identifiable as such when just babies? A huge number of Pacific Islanders emigrate to NZ. Some of their kids or grand kids end up playing for the country of their birth: New Zealand. Naturally enough, these people identify strongly with NZ, the place they were born, nurtured, educated, and trained. Is this Capten Synhwyrol too big a fool to understand that NZ is a multicultural society with a very strong Polynesian feel to it, especially in Auckland? There isn't a "New Zealand" and another quite separate community made up of Pacific Islanders. Those with Pacific Island ancestry who live in NZ ARE New Zealanders, just like those whose ancestry may be Scottish, Pom, Irish, African, Asian, or even Welsh (God forbid). Why the sob story on behalf of the Pacific Islands? The Pacific Islands are small poor countries; they are not rugby super powers in the waiting. They do about as well as they ought to. The latest eligibility rules have certainly hurt the Pacific Islands, but not in the way most Europeans think. The great Samoan team of the early nineties was largely made up of NZ-born players; many had never set foot in the Pacific. Some had no Samoan blood in them at all. (Stand up Frank Bunce.) If it looked like you were not going to make the ABs, you had a quick check of the family tree and turned out for Samoa...or Scotland,Ireland or for the truly desperate, Wales.
Fact: Only about twenty non NZ-born players have ever made the All Blacks. That is from over a thousand players. The biggest providers have been Scotland and Ireland.

Club matches with intensity
neutrino posted @ 10:31:16 18/11/02
What is a game played with intensity.
Is it a Zurich match?
Would these matches improve our players?
Well I think the Celtic league matches are intensive matches for our players.
How many did Welsh clubs win this year?
We'd get beaten by more points in the Zurich. Does that mean they are more intensive.
Come on this intensity thing is another excuse, mun.
PhilBB posted @ 10:37:03 18/11/02
bollocks Neutrino. The CL may almost be as intensive as the ZP games, but you are missing the point as to why Anglo Welsh games would be better than the CL. Certainly, ZP games are more physical
Capten Synhwyrol posted @ 10:38:08 18/11/02
Entirely agree. Complaints about a lack of intensity caused by a sub-standard league set-up would be all well and good if Welsh clubs were beating Irish and Scottish opposition at a canter. If we then took confident, winning players into the international arena and got thumped, we could complain about the structure.
Welsh clubs have won about a quarter of matches against Irish and Scottish opposition this season, so I'd suggest it shows that we can't cope with the intensity of the Celtic League.
It will be interesting to look back on this season and consider how many of the minimum 13 cross-border matches were won by Welsh clubs.
Sure, the structure we have doesn't help us, and I do believe we have to reduce the number of teams we have, but it's not all to do with our absence from the ZP.
Oi Phill you don't have to start with an expletive or was that a good morning type of thing.
Anyway If we were capableof winning Celtic league matches then a switch to Zurich might be an idea.
Until then.....
Apologies -- Pete Clase, 07:21:58 11/18/02 Mon(80.40.24.38)
I've never before understood the constant complaints about the horns in the stadium. I've always thought that the odd blast on a horn now and again couldn't do any harm. That was until I heard them for myself. I listened to the Canada game on the radio, and the din is constant. It was summed up when Mrs Clase came in the room and told me to sort the radio out because it wasn't tuned in right.
Something has to be done about it. Not for any Calon Lan, bring back the choirs, no place in a rugby stadium reason. Purely because the row is feckin terrible mun.

Dear all,
I am writing to quite a large number of rugby teams from different countries because I think that in these days you are programming next rugby year and you might be interested in my invitation.
I am writing on behalf of Valsugana Rugby, a club based in Padova, Italy, that every year on 25th of April holds a tournament for kids from under 7 to under 13. The tounament lasts one full day and we expect to see about 1000 young athletes on our pitches to play, eat, need medical assistance and every kind of help. The day after we'll exploit all the structures and facilities of the tournament for as many under 15 friendly matches as possible.
This will be the 19th time we hold this tournament and therefore we have quite a lot of experience for every kind of problem and solution and we can help you in lots of ways for accomodation , transport etc...Most of Italian international players, when they were young, participated to the tournament so now they are more that happy to show up and usually they hand the cups to the winners.
Padova is situated in the middle of the north-eastern Italian region of Veneto, the traditional home of Italian rugby, so you are quite sure you will find a good opposition and a great experience for your kids, even considering that if you want to have a look around, apart from Padova, that is a nice town, in less than one hour you can go to Venice or Verona. Usually the 25th of April in Padova is a very good day to play rugby, with glorious sunny days but not too heat.
Last year the tournament was particularly successfull, as you can see at <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.valsuganarugby.it/en/torneo_en.html">http://www.valsuganarugby.it/en/torneo_en.html</a> , everybody considered it one of the best junior tournament in Italy and we are very proud and happy because of this, but we think that to improve we need a broader foreign participation, so we'd like YOU to participate! We have plenty of time before the 25th of April, so we can sort out all the possible problems easily, just let me know if you think you might be interested or if you need more information and I'll be glad to answer to every kind of question.
In general I think that you should first take a look to youth rugby system in Italy, that might be different from your nation's for some rule or for age groups:
UNDER 7:
players born in 1996
dimensions of the pitch: width 15m; length 22m number of players: 6 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 32 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 6 minutes matches and maybe 8 minutes finals, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with only free kicks (no lineouts, no kicking, no scrum down...)
UNDER 9:
players born in 1994-1995
dimensions of the pitch: width 18-22m; length 40-45m number of players: 8 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 40 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 8 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with only free kicks (no lineouts, no kicking, no scrum down...)
UNDER 11:
players born in 1992-1993
dimensions of the pitch: width 35m; length 56-69m number of players: 10 + unlimited number on the bench (but they all must play during each match) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 48 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals
you'll play 9-10 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with kicking only from own 22m area, lineouts thrown with 2 players jumping that cannot be lifted, uncontested scrum
downs with 3 players on each side
UNDER 13:
players born in 1990-1991 dimensions of the pitch: width 40-45m; length 56-69m number of players: 12 + 7 (but they all must play before the end of the tournament) the maximum playing time in one day will be around 60 minutes (i.e., for example, that if you are supposed to play five matches from heats to finals you'll play 12 minutes matches, more or less). general rules: contact rugby with kicking only from own 22m area, lineouts thrown with 4 players jumping that cannot be lifted, uncontested scrum
downs (but hooking can be contested) with 6 players (3-2-1) on each side, kicks for additional points after tries
UNDER 15:
players born in 1988-1989 dimensions of the pitch: same as seniores number of players: 15 + 7
the maximum playing time in one day will be around 60 minutes general rules: normal rugby with players that cannot be lifted during lineouts, uncontested scrum downs (but hooking can be contested)
Regarding transport , closest international airports are Venice, Treviso and Verona, and for accomodation you might find these websites useful:
You'll find a list of hotels at: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.apt.padova.it/HotelPadova.htm">http://www.apt.padova.it/HotelPadova.htm</a>
don't forget a bit of negotiation for a better price if you bring a certain number of persons
Keep an eye even on: <a rel=nofollow target=_blank href="http://www.apt.padova.it/Default.htm">http://www.apt.padova.it/Default.htm</a>
If you want you can have a look at the website of Abano Terme, a thermal town quite close to us and with a large number of hotels etc... where rugby clubs often find accomodation, see: www.abanoterme.net or www.abanomontegrotto.de
For sure you need much more information, just don't hesitate to contact me!

This weekend's internationals -- Gareth 3C, 21:14:01 11/17/02 Sun(62.128.220.106)
Due to being one of only 3 lads not to go to Cyprus I had very little to do on Saturday and even fewer people to do it with. Luckily we managed to blag 3 free debenture tickets for the England - Australia game. So an Englishman, a Welshman and a Scotsman went to Twickenham (must be some joke there) with 2 other Englishmen to watch the game. The pitch was great (one up on the MS already) the fireworks and pre-match cobblers was pretty good and professionally run (but then look at who was running it) but I found the atmosphere boring. Maybe cos it was the first game I've been to as a neutral but it was very quiet. At games I like to sing and shout for the entire duration and have banter with those around me, particularly opposing fans. The old East Terrace was great for that but so have loads of all seater stadiums I've been to, especially the Gabba and a few years back MS. There were a few choruses of Swing Low, but nothing sustained and also there were hardly any Aussies there, I'd say only 5 - 10% of the crowd. Also they seemed to be seated in groups seperately like at poofball which meant that there was no banter at all, not even between England fans. Apparently this is because nearly all the seats are debenture so it shows a massive downside to the system. No blydi hooters though - big plus point.
Fair play to England, they played brilliantly in patches. However I was bored for most of the middle of the first half - if I wanted to watch lines of lads run at each other I'd have gone to Huddersfield and watched a better version of it. It's sad to see how downhill Wales have gone and it can only be helped at grassroots/domestic level and by keeping youngsters fresh and developing between the U19/U21 level and up to the full squad. Though a pitch like at the MS is inexcusable.
Due to being so busy for the last year or so yesterday was my first international since the Lion's Test in Sydney. What an immense occasion that was and I hope rugby gets it's act together so I can enjoy days like that, regularly for a long time to come.
I reckon France would be a good outside bet for the World Cup. They should have beaten the All Blacks and their rucking was immense, giving clean, quick ball to the scrum half every time. Can someone please explain the decision to give NZ a scrum after that penalty attempt though cos I just dont get it. Diolch

Welcome to the Welsh pub!
The pool team hates the darts team.
The quiz team despises them both.
The lager drinkers goad the beerdrinkers
Who both think that wine drinkers are effeminate.
The English speakers suspect the Welsh speakers of plotting against them.
Whilst the Cymraeg campaign for a bilingual Karaoke machine.
Old regulars shake their heads and despair, of the underage youths who gawp at screens and slag off the world.
Meanwhile the brewery are planning, a re-vamp,a re-brand and a re-launch,
whilst in the snug, pseudo communists dream of forming a cooperative and running the pub themselves.
Everyone in the pub is also in the club, which is fissured by cliques.
We sit around in huddled groups whispering and pointing fingers.
Sniggering and chewing the fat.
The decor is dated, dust lies thick on the mock oak beams, glossy woodchip peels in the gents.
And this is how it's always been, and this is how it is, and this is how we like it.
And we hate with a passion, the pub across the road.

A quick squint at the rules shows that the reason NZ got a scrum is because once a kick at goal is indictated it must be completed within one minute even if it falls off the tee.
If Gelez had stopped his run and asked the ref if he could reset the ball, so long as this was done and the kick was taken within a minute all would have been fine.
However as the ball dropped Gelez picked the ball up to attempt a different kick with out consulting the ref not that it would have made any difference, as once a kick at goal has been signalled only a kick at goal can be attempted thus infringing. Infringments by the kicking team at a penalty result in a scrum at the mark, put in to the opposition.
Commentators -- anon, 22:34:37 11/17/02 Sun(62.6.65.116)
Huw Llewelyn Davies is easily the best rugby commentator I have listened to. It's worth learning Welsh just to enjoy his commentary. Eddie Butler is a load of cr*p.
Also, can people please refrain from saying poofball, it's football. Let's all get behind the lads out in Azer whatever it's called on Wednesday. If you are truly Welsh you would even if you prefer rugby.
I'd like to clarify one thing from yesterday; I don't support England I just enjoy watching them play rugby these days. I just watch Wales out of courtesy and blind optimism not because I'm expecting to watch highly entertaining rugby. Oh I wish we had a team like the Saes, I never thought I'd be saying this.
Comments on this anyone? -- Just wondering., 00:32:16 11/18/02 Mon(80.1.5.130)

The only thing that should be kept from this bored is the bit about posting Welsh XVs.
It can get a little boaring, especially the perennial loose/tight head confusion, not to mention people who post teams for the All Blacks game that contain players not even in the blydi squad mun ;0)

Smaller welsh league -- Al, 18:38:53 11/17/02 Sun(195.93.32.13)
C'mon, concentrate the cash on a slightly small collection of excellence without neglecting development. The two are not incompatable. Unfortunately turkeys do not vote for Christmas. I am not sure if merger or relegation is the way to go, in practice they are the same but each has a slightly different emotive effect. (The politics are too baroque for me.) I live in Saesland & they used to report Welsh club rugby in a limited way. No more. We will soon generate reduced sponsorship and be dead and buried. The Saes are going from strenth to strenth. Hope the guys acquit themselves OK against Jonah's & his mates. Victory , I suspect not.
Englands bottle -- KYLIES (_!_) arse, 12:11:30 11/17/02 Sun(213.39.30.106)
Cant comment on the WELSH game - overseas and havent seen it. Think ENGLAND have finally found their weakest link - some bottle....hats off to them previously they would have crumbled when 12+ points down to a team like OZ. ITS going to take Wales light years to reach the stqndard they are at - and it hurts badly for me to say it. Last week I said Flatley was a much better player than Larkham - yesterday he proved it...
NEW ZEALAND by 25+ in my book next week
