I think that I may be able to help on this one.
Clipstone is a smallish village about 5 miles from Mansfield. It is on the edge of Sherwood Forest. The male population there worked in the large local Colliery . There was at that time nothing else in the vicinity.
I expect that for reasons unknown to me but available from the Nottingham Archivist, men were sent there to work in the pit and accommodated in a recently vacated army barracks.
