I remember Mr Staples the cobbler.He was very tall and slim to my young eyes and profoundly deaf!He was a very good cobbler but always "told me off" in a kind way if I took shoes in that were worn down too far.
By the way, Abertillery is not a village, and was the home of over 40,000 people in those days. You should have a look at it sometime if ever you are in the area. However , it is not much like it was in those days(40s, 50s, and 60s).
