Subject: Rees Icecreams

Hello. I wonder if anyone remembers the Rees family who lived in Six Bells from around 1905 ish. Blodwyn and Albert Rees lived first in Gillfach cottage (road unknown) in Cwm-nant y groes. Blodwyn (nee Hancorn) ((whos mother Emily apparently had a family coat of arms of The Three Cocks )) had five children ,first Edgar and Anne, and years laterPhil, Nora and Lionel. My grandfather ,Albert worked at some stage in the pits, and then as an insurance agent, . When they moved ,still within Six Bells, Blodwyn ran a small sweets and icecream parlour from the front room of her house to make ends meet. I remember her telling me that on one occasion she slightly overscalded the milk for the icecream, which accidentally gave it a faintly almondy taint. She prayed no-one would notice, and amazingly it was a hit and people came back and begged her to make more. Albert apparently kept Blue Bevren rabbits, and an Airdale dog called Bruce. At some stage the family also had a pet lamb which followed my grandmother around .Later , I understand she fostered Lucia, a Polish girl, and then many years later ,Bruno a Polish airman killed later in the war. My mother was Anne, she remembers being at Six Bells primary school when the head was D.P.Williams . Any of it ring any bells anyone? brookespat@hotmail.com
