Subject: Woman, 79, badly beaten by youth in Abertillery - help the police

A 79-year-old woman was severely beaten in an attack as she walked to a supermarket on Saturday morning.

She is in hospital with a broken nose and elbow, and cuts and bruises to her hand, face and legs after the assault in Abertillery, said Gwent Police.

Her attacker was described as aged 15 - 18, with dark hair and wearing a grey hooded top and dark jeans or trousers. He fled towards the town centre.

The victim was walking toward Tesco in Glan Ebbw Terrace at about 0945 BST.

She is receiving treatment at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. Police said they did not know yet if the attacker was after money, and asked witnesses to contact their local police station.
