THE DIVA IS OUT
Joan Collins, the prime-time diva who received much fanfare when she joined the daytime arena as Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light, is departing the show after only three months into her six-month scheduled appearance. According to Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, P&G's executive in charge of production, Collins asked "to be released from her GL contract" to concentrate on other obligations. Collins herself adds, "It was a fascinating challenge to work on GL... It is regretful that we weren't able to fit my obligations stemming from the success of my two new books and my future projects." Collins's last air date is Dec. 23. The role will be recast. In other GL news, head writer Millee Taggart has resigned from the show, for personal reasons, states a GL rep.
I mean, really, I shouldn't be too surprised, but I am. And by her comments, it's like the soap should have molded their schedule around HER. HEllo, you're a friggin actress, and apparently the ratings aren't showing for her much ado return to acting. I'm just surprised this wench gets more press than MILLIE TAGGERT, the woman who practically brought GL from the depths of hell these past few months.
I just wished CBS would put a bullet in it, and get it over with already. I am sick of seeing this show get dragged in the mud.
And in other news, Jacob Young exits GH!(Hip Hop HOORAY Ho!)
Is anyone thinking about actresses that could play the role of Alexandra Spaulding?
Let's have Marj Dusay return to the role, isn't she recurring on All My Children? Robin Strasser? Anyone but Jane Elliot, she's already played a character on GL and when actors do dual roles like that, it normally ends up sucking(John Aprea on AW, Josh Taylor from Days, etc.).
But, as I've stated before, if GL got the axe from CBS today, I wouldn't cry for it's return.
