Ratings lower and lower each week....
burnt-out writers..
What is the solution?

1/2 Hour Soaps!

It's finally happened!
The hour format is dead!

The first soap to expand to an hour: Another World
is now canceled! How ironic is that? Due to
the success of AW, almost all of the other soaps followed.
Networks loved the idea since it would be cheaper to
air 1 hour-long soap than 2 30 minute soaps. After over
two decades of the hour-long format, its time to admit
defeat! The genre is suffering from the 60 min format.
Its actually killing it! The writers are expected to
create to much in too little time, only to have to do
major re-writes for dingbat network execs. Viewers lives
have changed greatly, they just don't have the time to
watch a whole afternoon of soaps, some don't even have
time for the 43 mins of one soap (with FF commericals)
Our choices are very limited! It would be great to
have double the amount of soaps on the air since it
would allow more choices. More competition is whats
needed. Not the same friggin soaps decade after decade,
thats the problem, how many times will GL, ATWT, GH, DAYS
reinvent itself? If you were to cut each of those shows
in half, dump the characters that don't work, you'll likely
have a more compelling and better show. Soaps without
the scenes that go nowhere? Can you imagine how great
that would be! Hour long soaps have no choice but to
add those boring scenes that do nothing to move the story forward. The breakdown writers are given an amount of characters for an episode and they have to make stuff up for them to fill the time. The fast-paced B&B, sure its
trashy for some, but let me tell you! The show has the fastest-pace around. Things happen, its a wonderful example of why the 30 min format should be embraced again.

Finanical stuff....
ABC is trying a 1/2 year shooting scheduele for PC.
Why not do that for the newly restored 30 min format
for the other soaps?!
Lots of money can be saved! P&G can move GL into
ATWTs studio!! ATWT can tape from Jan-June and GL
tape July-Dec! They can use the same crew for both
soaps! The sets put in storage until next year!
One studio, two soaps producing new episodes for
52 weeks a year!

Also...The writers will have a long hiatus, which will hopefully allow them to create better stories.

The possibilites!

What you all think?
