What started out as a rant for SoapNet ended up being an idea for the network. I erased all
of my rants and focused on this....
I would like to see SoapNet do a couple of daily original 15 minute soaps. There would be
two 15 minutes soaps that would be sister shows and each of them would have maybe one
or two sets....The shows could be titled, "Till the End of Time" and "Life and Liberty". Set
in scenic Northern Arkansas both shows would focus on the blue collar North family:
Frank(early 50's) and his wife, Christine(late 40's) and their two kids Craig(mid 20’s) and
Julie(18).
TIME(where the main action will take place in the North’s living room) would focus on
two storylines:
Christine North feels detached from her husband, Frank. As he walks out of the door each
day for work, there’s no love or affection from him. She tells her next door neighbor,
Bernice, how she feels about everything. Bernice tells Christine to try to spice things up in
her marriage. Before the first episode is over, a knock is at the door. The man behind it is
David “Doc” Galloway, her ex-boyfriend in high school.. They separated because he went
off to Vietnam and relocated in Florida. He recently returned to his hometown, now selling
life insurance door to door.
He comes by and visits her almost everyday and the feelings she felt for Doc come back to
her. She wonders why she never pursued her dream to become a nurse and move away
and she suddenly realizes.....she married Frank.
As the situation grows worse with Christine and Frank, she turns to Doc for comfort. But,
will she give into her past feelings to sacrifice her failed marriage?
And the second storyline will revolve around Craig and his engagement to his High School
sweetehart, Nina Davidson. Craig has a shocking secret of alcoholism which makes him
late for work teaching and could drive a wedge between him and Nina.

L&L is a more youth oriented soap(I can see the eyes rolling, CC) that revolves around the
friendship of three guys who are freshmen at University of Arkansas.....
The main action takes place at the coffeeshop titled, “The Hog Stop”.
Billy Ramsey, a studious recluse, instantly clicks with a girl in his Astronomy class, Julie
North. But his best friend, Daniel Lyman, might beat him to the punch. Daniel plays
football at UofA and is incredibly popular. Who will Julie choose? Or will getting her heart
broken be a wake up call for her to pick the other?
And the third guy is Brian Atkins, who’s life of drugs and parties are affecting his grades.
The show frequently crosses over with TIME as Christine and Frank visit their daughter,
Julie in college. And as L&L Brian crosses over to TIME as the character is at a bar with
Craig discussing their lives as they get drunk.

So, these are just models of soaps SoapNet could do. Seeing as if the action would take
place in one main setting and the shows would be on for 15 minutes, it seems like this
would be an interesting soap concept to revisit. But SoapNet needs something different
besides ABC Daytime repeats 24/7. Hopefully, they’ll get some more classic DAYTIME
soaps on the air(I mean, really, who gave a crap about Hotel?).
