OK, here are my first thoughts from the Emmy Awards...

Bad things...

Dick Clark should be flogged and never allowed to produce this show again. He has a history of screwed up broadcasts but tonight's was shameful...from cutting off the wife of the lifetime achievement award winner to not acknowledging the industry's loss of Mary Stuart and Henry Sleasar to the wrong announcements to the technical director showing Susan Lucci backstage when some idiot told her that she won when it was really Susan Flannery.

They started out by having the actor's give a description of their character but of course, when the major awards came along there wasn't enough time. Maybe that was good because what the actors actually said was scripted and cheesey.

Most undeserving winner...Jacob Young and his ego. I was shocked that he didn't say something like "what took you so long to give this to me?"

I thought that the internet awards for best villain and best couple cheapened the whole thing. Leave that stuff for the soap rags. I noticed that it was possible to vote again and again online....which is exactly what the Days fans would do. Fortunately these weren't actual Emmy awards.

Someone needs to hire a fashion consultant for Michelle Stafford and Melody Thomas Scott.

Cool things...

Yay to OLTL for winning their very first Emmy for best show! Just like ATWT did last year, this year OLTL came roaring back from the bowles of being really bad. Although I hadn't watched it as regularly as others, OLTL has come in under the radar and been pretty consistent and enjoyable. AMC had some very silly storylines countered against their good ones. Same thing with ATWT. And Y&R, though far better than the non-nominees, was nowhere near it's best this year. I just love that none of the so called experts picked OLTL to win this year. Ha!

Peter Bergman's speach was the most heartfelt and sincere. He seems to really appreciate his job and the genre; he seems like a classy guy.

On par with the technical glitches was Hogan Scheffer's goof when he thanked someone and said they were from ABC (who is trying to woo him away) rather than CBS. Though I would have said this was a bad thing, I cracked up at his reaction when he realized what he said.

Anyway, that's my quick look at Emmy night. Can't wait to read what everyone else thought....
