As my father was a serviceman in WWII, we moved into a GI Housing development in Canarsie in the late 1940's. It was composed of Quonset huts and wooden buildings. I was a very small child and only went to kindergarten before we moved away. I would like to know more about the development and have never been able to find out anything. Does anyone have any information on this at all? I would so appreciate hearing from you. All I remember is shopping on Ave.L with my mother, a large park, and a Catholic Church not too far away. My dad took the subway into lower Manhattan to work at P & J Die Company. Thank you for any information you can give me!! CKehrley

Wow!! It is going to be 40 years since Canarsie HS's first graduation. That would be the class of 1967. The 60's and 70's was a great time to grow up in Canarsie and we all have such wonderful memories.
Now its time to celebrate and there is a reunion being planned for May 4, 2007. There will be, a cruise on Royal Caribbean and a dinner the night before, at a hotel in Miami, yet to be determined.

friends that worked in thrifty beverage or that worked in the beer company.remember pay day,we would go to dee dee's,get drunk after work.or the crowd that formed and hung out from there.pete slavin,john sheeran,bart savino,the bagels(those were the girls).don,t forget the crowd at carl's honda. you know who you are.it all went by so fast.we should all be in our mid to late 30's.in the last few years,friends from the old neighborhood have been having a get together around christmas time.maybe the last 3-5 years.these are not the same friends from above,but it made me think.if you have contact with anybody from your past,try to stay in touch with them.it's hard,but that's all you have.some of us have families now,and just don't have time.FIND SOME.i made contact last year with a good friend,but for some reason it stopped.it's a shame.maybe in our 60's.

read your posting i lived in canarsie from 56-05 my dad bought canarsie hardware in 48 do you remember the record store right next to the hardware store on east 94th and on east 95th there was a candy store owned by 2 brothers last name was lerner one brother was harry raised my children in canarsie and there was no place like canarsie a community that was like a family would love to hear from anyone who remembers those years
