Wow!! It is going to be 40 years since Canarsie HS's first graduation. That would be the class of 1967. The 60's and 70's was a great time to grow up in Canarsie and we all have such wonderful memories.
Now its time to celebrate and there is a reunion being planned for May 4, 2007. There will be, a cruise on Royal Caribbean and a dinner the night before, at a hotel in Miami, yet to be determined.

friends that worked in thrifty beverage or that worked in the beer company.remember pay day,we would go to dee dee's,get drunk after work.or the crowd that formed and hung out from there.pete slavin,john sheeran,bart savino,the bagels(those were the girls).don,t forget the crowd at carl's honda. you know who you are.it all went by so fast.we should all be in our mid to late 30's.in the last few years,friends from the old neighborhood have been having a get together around christmas time.maybe the last 3-5 years.these are not the same friends from above,but it made me think.if you have contact with anybody from your past,try to stay in touch with them.it's hard,but that's all you have.some of us have families now,and just don't have time.FIND SOME.i made contact last year with a good friend,but for some reason it stopped.it's a shame.maybe in our 60's.

I was born in the summer of 1989, and lived in Canarsie till the summer of 95, after some of my neighors got mugged in the keyfood parking lot. I miss canarsie, not like, i just remember it, and enjoy the memmorie, but the memories cause pain. A pain in the heart like a dead relative, or friend. I badly would like to move back when i turn 18, but fear for my saftey, and therefor would like to join hands with my fellow canarsians and start the Canarsie Fund.
The canarsie fund will go to improving the community in any way possible, but i do not have a plan fo it. Please contact me on AOL. My screenname is Jaguarstrike2, If we have enough people donating, canarsians or not, there may be hope for canarsie.
On a side note, do any others experience this emotional pain when reminicing on canarsie, or is it just me.

I went to Thomas Jefferson, read the Canarsie Courier, took the 42 bus to the LL/14th street line, ate at Grabsteins, bought stuff at Goody's Luncheonette, looked at playboy when it was 50 cents!, and hung out at those little parks with the weird tubular concrete things. I remember when 707's into Idelwild (later, JFK) starting roaring over over heads. If you remember me, give a shout!

here are 3 canarsie stories, each written by someone who thinks his her canarsie was the best and went down after.One a guy fro the 30s. Next a girl from the 50s and finally someone who lives there now.
there was the soda shop which was ruined to make a bagel shop which was taken out to make a subway restaurant. The park which was destroyed to make the brook which was enihilated to make housing.Each feels his her canarsie was the best and went down when the new element entered. Maybe youll discover that you were that new element.I read one without knowing the year and it sounded great . Then he wrote he graduated brooklyn college and the neighborhood went bad as new immigrants from coney island ,russian s began buying new houses where his park had been. I realized that I was that new immigrant. My canarsie was built on top of his.
(the 40s)Where are children (now seniors) from P.S. 114 around, 1946 or 1947. Does anyone know, Frank Dantona, we used to walk home from school together, (he was a nice guy). What about Frances Pepitone, Josephine Mazza, Theresa Cocchiola, Marilyn White, Catherine Bruno, Gaspare Marone,(all classmates). I lived in Canarsie up until 1989, now live in N.J. My husband, Jim Denaro, died in 1992. I have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Canarsie was so wonderful back in the old days. Remember the victory gardens we used to plant on the school grounds. Any girls remember miss Benton the cooking teacher. (she was sure tough). I used to live on Flatlands ave. and E. 86 st. The Valenti's, the family had 4 girls and 5 boys, anyone remember us. We used to play baseball in the empty lots next to our house. Cleto Ardito had a grocery store right next to us, and remember Mr. Frank, the other grocery store. Anyone remember the Log Cabin, the ice cream parlor on Flatlands Avenue, it was so cute.

back in 74 i ran track at south shore. Im going back there this summer in july to run on same track 3 miles 12 laps to see if i can do it in 21 minutes at most. Im 45 now and its a goal.Then i was male 32 levis, long hair, soft face, sexy butt,fast free spirited ,looking ahead at my life...now im male(if my wife permits me) 37 levis or better dockers with the extra stretch, bald,wrinkled,spreading butt,kinds fast ,free spirited? no im mortgaged till 2009. Itll be july 05 if i can get into the track. Ill drive there from my house in jersey and take photos.

I just found this site . I live in canarsie now I am 16 and on 81st street and flatlands. I go to south shore high. I have read about people who grad here back in 74 or 76 . They talk of the good old days. They imagine that those here before them in the 40s werent happy and those after neither. The fact is those from the40s saw their neighborhoods going DOWN wen the newbies entered in the early 60s. The 40s people talk of the good old days wen they were in high skul in 1952 in canarsie .As well the 70s people graduated in 70 or 75 talk of their good old days. They see the 40s people as no where and the 80s people like me as no where also.I think canarsie is great. We hang out , bowlin, pool, the corner, we aint got no nosher but we got BENs on flatlands. We aint got THe Brook pool but we got another.We dont watch mary tyler moore but we see seinfeld. We got the plaza ,that hasnt changed. We will get old and 1 day be 45 in 2034 and we will talk of our old days in the neighborhood as you who graduated in 74 talk of yours.

Everone from Canarsie is invited to a fund raiser in memory of my son MichaelVasquez-Moore (The 11 yr old that got hit by a car on Victory Blvd,in Staten Island, and died on June 1st of this yr, the driver that had no licsense, got away scott free)it will be held on Sunday, December 5th at 2:30 till 7pm at St Anthonys 1 Parish Ave.The admission is $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children over 16 yrs old. a good guy from canarsie died today in LA. He hung out with us back in the ol days almost everynight. He kept us up late on school nights and many recall our moms telling us to go to bed already and to stop playing with him. He was with us in the next room the night before our SAT, the night before we went away to college, the friday night we lost our virginity. He went to university with some, he stayed in canarsie with others. He was the class clown in elementary school, the class humorist in JHS and the handsome yet chummy guy in high school.
He moved to florida with some, to long island with others. He might have been at your kids bar mitsva or babtism. He will be missed.

I grew up on Farragut and 92 mid 60s to mid 70s and spent many hours playing great street games such as Skelzie, Chinese handball (for asses up of course), stoopball, Off the wall, Johnny on the pony, Stickball, Cracktop, Boxball and make crazy Frank chase you and throw rocks at you (someone was gettin stitches that day!)I am compiling the perceived rules for all of these games and any others you may have played.
