Looking for Info on my Grandfather

Hi Folks! I am looking for info. on my Grandfather who was a graduate of Canarsie HS and a member of the Canarsie Trojans football team circa late 1930's. You folks are the closest I can get to the 1930's. Any chance you can give me a few tips and leads, I have some pics of him in his uniform of the Canarsie Trojans taken in the late 1930's. His name is Edward Kaptansky also known as Edward Kabot.

Your grandpa may have played for the Canarsie Trojans but I don't think that was Canarsie High's team in the 1930s. Reason I say that is that I believe Canarsie High School was first built and opened up in the 1960s. I even know of two members of their first graduating class. This is all before my time so you need to speak to an older Canarsian but the nearest High School to Canarsie (which was basically some farm land and swamps back then from what I understand) in the 1930s may have been Tilden. Tilden also has a message board on this site. Good luck in your search. I recently did a family geneology project and it is very difficult to go back in time.

Canarsie High was not around in the 30's The only schools at that time were PS 114 & PS 115
I do not know where the Trojans team was from but may have been a club or church team.
There were a few homes and a store on the property of Canarsie High at that time.

The 1st graduating class of Canarsie High School was 1967. If your grandfather was in high school in the 1930's or 40's and lived in Canarsie, he either went to Tilden High School or Jefferson High School. If he lived east of Rockaway Parkway, he went to Jefferson, (East 98th Street towards Pennsylvania Avenue. If he lived west of Rockaway Parkway, (East 96th Street towards Remsen Avenue) he would have gone to Tilden. Then there's the possibility that he may have gone to a specialty school such as Westinghouse Vocational, Grady, etc. The best place to start looking is in year books for the schools around the time he would have graduated.
