david, this is a long shot based on syncronicity rather that fact. my father was clement alwyn appleby, his father was william frederick appleby b1883 south australia, his father was frederick morris appleby b 1854 south australia. there is a break in info but in 1939 mr hall and his wife ann elizabeth arrived in port misery south australia on the "duchess of northumberland". ann had her son joseph appleby from her previous marriage with her. i am following this up without sucess, but i'm wondering if joseph was my first relative in south australia!
