Well put.
I now live in Portland, Oregon who's slogan is "The city that works" which is ironic because so few of us do. The city is very welcoming to recent college drop outs who find themselves living on the streets and sleeping under one of the bridges near the river. The unofficial city slogan is "Keep Portland weird" on that account they seem to have succeeded.
