I think McSame was encouraged to pick Sarah Palin because it may help the fading fortunes of hopelessly corrupt
Ted Stevens who is in a tight race to keep his senate seat.
The repuglicans will lose seats in the senate this election
cycle, but in the byzantine world of the senate, seniority
means everything and Stevens has that in spades, so the party
machinery is going to do everything possible to at least save
the seats with senior incumbants in them. McSame being the
spineless, but faithful party toady went along with it although Palin probably was not his first choice.
