hello DJam - thanks for your response to my thread (whoever
you are) it's nice that someone finally remembered me - my first two threads being met with a digital blank stare. Sorry to post so late - i only sidle up to a pc about once or twice a week when i work at the local library in my village (won't have one in the house - not even sure the electrical system could bear it).

Putting the Congdon-Corsi conundrum aside you are quite right in detecting the Turkish p.m.'s folly in supporting equipping and training insurgents (with covert British and French help) in what was from the outset a sectarian civil
war while prating on about the Syrian people's right to self-determination and the need to end the Baath party tyrannny blah blah blah. Erdoðan has aspired to become the
defender of the Arab Street (and once was promised by Dubya
the leadership role of the Great Middle East Project once
this region was subdued and under U.S. control)despite not being an Arab. Ýn addition his domestic policies are in stark authoritarian-bordering-on-totalitarian contrast to
his lofty speeches to Esad or to the Ýsraelis about the Palestinians. Yet keep in mind that Turkey as NATO's nigger
is under considerable pressure to enter the breach with Syria thus obviating the need for American or European decisiveness. (particularly during the sacramental election
season when all other considerations go by the board and the whole world is awaiting its outcome simply in order to move forward - i.e. it is actually a world election because there is no corner of the world left where the State Dept. has not invoked the 'national security interests' mantra as a handle to impose itself.) Nontheless
Turkey really does have a great record on humanitarian relief not only setting up numerous large refugee camps along the border with Syria but housed up to 600,000 Ýraqi
Kurds for 9 months without any international help at all
back in the day when Saddam Hussein spread poison gas over their villages (Halabca - remember that? of course not).
This summer we have repeatedly witnessed Syrian refugees streaming through the Turkish Aegean countryside at night to reach the ports and engage fishing boats to ferry them to that land of freedom and economic opportunity - Greece!
They join the annual flight of refugees from Ýraq Palestine Somalia even Pakistan and Bangladesh that come through Turkey as the shortest path to the European Union -
which wants no part of them. Ý can almost understand the American attitude of willed obliviousness to geopolitical
tides - it's very hard to maintain a blithe manner faced with the amount of sheer human misery confronting one every day in the real world.
