The debate still goes on over which tank was the best medium
tank of WWII. The Panther or the T-34. The transmission
was considered a weak point of the Panther because the Germans
lacked the necessary milling machines to create gear sets with
spiral bevel gears and were forced to use straight cut gears
in tank transmissions and consequently many Panthers were sidelined with broken transmissions.
