Rick those are well thought out reasons. Enjoy the sun and sand.

I've always thought a lot of John McCain and thought he was a very good senator but right now I think he's a little bit like Icarus-he wanted it so bad he was ready to toss aside the things that made him great, which were a rigorous honesty, a sense of decorum and propriety, and his unchallenged service to the country.

I think that choosing Governor Palin for his running mate was the worst mistake his campaign could have made if the goal was to make his effort credible and acceptable to the great majority of moderates. If the goal was to stir up animosity and hatred, then it was a success, although whether it was a long term good thing for his candidacy is likely to be answered in the negative. In the end, we're a country of moderates, and that's where the votes are.

The election's by no means a sure thing, either.

If you need to know what made the economic meltdown all happen look at the role of Phil and Wendy Gramm and the Commodities Futures Modernization Act that he authored that removed credit default swaps from the regulatory authority of the CFTC and his wife who headed that agency. If there's one man who did more that Phil "a nation of whiners" Gramm did to put Wall Street and the banks on the road to ruin, I've yet to hear of him.

I also fault my fellow citizens for wanting what they all knew deep down they couldn't afford, either. They should be ashamed of themselves, and while they're spending time in a crappy two bedroom apartment on the wrong side of the tracks with an unsympathetic landlord and driving a 93 Taurus, I hope they have reason to curse their own weakness and greed.

I do hope the history of this crash is written before I'm gone. It'll make interesting reading.
