good day po! im jan wednesday botial, alumni din po ako ng snhs, batch '98 po..it just dawned on me lately na 10th year reunion na namin ds 2008 and dat means we will also be hosting next year's reunion with you guys.sad to say, as a batch we never really get the chance to have a reunion like you guys have. But I'm aware that we should be coordinating with you for the said reunion, but we really dont know where to start, so here..
anyway, I have not talked about this with any of my batchmates yet..sana po mabigyan nyo rin po kami ng idea kung ano rin po ang part namin sa reunion, since i know na jubilarians po talaga ang main host sa reunion. we barely have six months to prepare and we have not started anything for the reunion..sana we can also do our share for that event..

My Dear Classmates,

Before I went to LA the last Holy Week, I attended a company sponsored conference in legaspi city. Of course, I took the chance to visit Sorsogon and checked my mother. Part of me though since I left our town (now city) way back, I always hope that and wonder if I would see some of you and possibly tell me about the whereabouts and ways of life of the others.

Certainly, you would not know that I longed to see you and that I terribly missed you. True, I am busy now with my profession, my work and so committed to my family. I could not thus justify entertaining thoughts about you, albeit, your memories, the happy times we shared, and your smiles, are still so vivid in my heart.

When I was about to return to legaspi that afternoon, mama asked me to accompany her to the house of kiko corcuera. the latter takes care of the insurance of their house along Rizal st. partly across of Petron Gas Station. Mama, who retired sometime ago as elementary school teacher is partly into insurance selling. Kiko, however, and his family now live in Pang-pang Village. We could not easily find his house in Pang-pang. It seemed to be located at the farthermost part of the subdivision. Kiko was there with his wife and mother. He was outside the house, in his backyard garden attending to the plants. Kiko, from the beginning is a homebuddy. His wife is lucky to find him. He is not adventurous but attentive to the needs of his family. I could be wrong, I think, they now have three children. I heard, kiko's wife plans to go to australia very soon. His sister is already there. Kiko is connected with the Land Bank branch in Sorsogon. Previuosly, he was with the Department of Agrarian Reform.

Kiko told me about the reunion for this year and accordingly the class would meet after the traditional parade at Noli's (Lustestica) residence.

The week that followed, I received a call from Noli. He told me about the plan of the national government to reorganize and privatize the BIR. Noli works there since the time he finished his A.B. Economics degree in BU. He also told me that about half of the employees may be adversely affected. Then he asked if I could find time to come home to attend the reunion. I regretted telling him straight that i was scheduled to fly to LA with my family. I forgot who he is. Noli, the true blue military man in our CAT, blew his top again. Ha! Ha! Ha! To assuage him, I promise to come home to sorsogon after my return from LA and report to him whatever info I could gather from the U.S. Noli is married to my not so distant cousin from Bacon. He sure was destined to get hitched with a woman from that place.

Days before I left for LA, I chance upon Ronnie Abitria in a turo-turo restaurant infront of NAPOCOR Office in Quezon City. He was with some of his officemates. All of them are guys, of course. We often take our lunch in that place. He was still soft spoken and always half-smiling when talking. Like me, he is also connected with NAPOCOR. He is one of our good engineers and, take note, still an eligible bachelor. He drives a car, which looks sporty to me and with lots of accessories. He also has his own house located in Quezon City.

We did not actually stay in LA but in a place called Orange County which is about half an hour drive from LA. Edgar and Susan Dichoso-Echano are the ones who live in LA. Edgar picked me at my sister-in-laws' house one morning after we returned from Seattle. He told me, his babysitter went somewhere and could not attend to their baby. Instead of Susan, Edgar took the day-off. Susan is one lucky woman. I knew it since we were in high school. Edgar was one classmate who would go places. He was so diligent and good natured. The heaven has blessed him with good life. Susan too even before was simple but pretty and hardworking. They now have a big beautiful house (plus a condo which they are renting out), expensive cars and three children. Who would imagine that a boy from Banao, Bacon would reach that far. Edgar is now in the process of setting up his own company.

I would have been contented if he brought me to a macdonalds resto that morning. We could have taken our breakfast there. After all, what I only desired was to see him, so I would have something to report to our classmates when I return to the nativeland. But he would not listen. He instead brought me to a classy resto where we would be served by some americans. All throughout, he was always trying to convince me to migrate to U.S. I could not tell him then that though I like the idea, especially now that I have been there and experienced the weather and other things that make that place so beautiful and attractive, I am actually afraid now of starting all over again. I dont have the perseverance, diligence and tenacity of edgar.

From the states and after returning to my work in NAPOCOR for a week, I went home to sorsogon on the 26th of april. I arrived in Legaspi ciy via PAL. I rode in a tricycle from the airport to Albay Capitol, then I rode a jeepney to Daraga and finally a Don-don Liner bus to Sorsogon. On the way to sorsogon, somewhere in Panlayaan or Kilometro trese, we passed by the cyclists in the Tour of Luzon who were headed to Legaspi. I should be in sorsogon that day, it was my father's death anniversary. My mother prepared some food for merienda cena. Relatives and friends of my father came. We also visited his pantheon which as you all know is just across our house in Almendras.

I called Cesar, hoping I could talk to him. I expected to get all the info i need from him, being the Provincial administrator, the true political kingpin of sorsogon (the real power/or power broker), and the one all or anyone in our class would expect to visit, whenever in town or city.

I was able to talk to him but only on the cellphone. He was in Gumaca on the way to Manila. He advised me though to visit the wake of Leticia Basilan of Batch 81. I was told later, she died of Lupus. I dont know what disease is that. I asked the cellphone of Noli. The latter, however, does not have one.

I was scheduled to go back to Manila the following day. That night, I had nowhere to go. I needed to meet a classmate. I asked my cousin, jun-jun Mella to drive me around. We checked our friends, Nonoy Fajardo and Dennis Delgado. Both of them were also in Manila. We went to the house of Leticia Basilan. I was not familiar with any of the people there. So we proceeded to Noli's house in Pang-Pang Village. It was already 9 P.M.
They must be already sleeping. We called out Noli. His wife opened the door and approached us from inside the gate. Noli was not yet home. He was attending to something in Bibincahan.

I thought then that I would go home empty handed. The following morning, 6 a.m., I went to Bacon Beach with my cousins from the father side, who picked me up. We went swimming until about 7:30 when the sun was about to come out. I went to church (the protestant) 9:30 to commune with God and renew ties with old family friends, the Lopezes, Salandanans, Botes, Corrals and many more. The Pastor's daughter was baptized that sunday morning..

From the church, at about 12 a.m., i proceeded home. From afar, I saw Noli, Arnel Caguia and Anto Duana waiting outside our gate. They told me, they were there since 10 a.m. A minute later, Paul Advincula joined us from Sampaloc. I was simply very happy talking to them. It seemed, my high schools days came alive again. I was carefree. I could not even remember that I had a mission to fulfill. My memory got blurred. All I could remember are bits of pieces of the info they relayed to me. Noli was elected by acclamation as President while Topet Ayo was elected Vice President for Metro Manila. Then we ate in the house whatever food was left in our kitchen. Noli and Anto did all the talking, as usual. About thirty from our class joined the parade. I promised to help in coordinating things and inform you and them about developments.

I will continue my litanies later....

Just checking if there are new messages...

It's a relief to see Joseph's update regarding SNHS 82 Manila Chapter's meeting... at least dili na ako mahimo HAHAHA

By the way, I learned from Noli, Kiko and Grace that there were committees formed and that 2 persons per section were assigned to look for their respective classmates... Wara ugaring ako copy of the list of names of these class representatives... At any rate, I believe our Class Directory should be prioritized in the meantime and the addresses/contact details of at least 80% of our classmates should be in by August 2006... kaya maski tabi may class representatives na, mag-exert pa man gihapon kita effort na matrace naton ini na iba naton na mga batchmates. I learned from Jennifer Jubilo that Noli asked her to re-arranged our Class Directory in such a way na dili per section but rather alphabetical. Sa Section 1 kaya, only a handful na lang an wara kita contact details. Sa Section 2, maybe 50%. But from Section 3 onwards, diot-diot lang an may contact kita. During the Manila Chapter's last meeting, we agreed na magpa-TV/Radio/Print sin notice to the public regarding our forthcoming 25th SNHS Class reunion... an contact person/number na binutang namon si Joseph Dechavez and his phone number sa office... I don't know if somebody had already tried to contact him. :)

With respect didto sa mga committees, I'll post it next time.

So much for now.

If there are batchmates of ours abroad working for the much awaited Silver Jubilee, may I also report that there is an equally vibrant group of people in Manila working towards the same direction.

Niyan na yadi ako sa Manila, didi naman ako sainda anay maupod-upod. You must have known already that ANTONIO (Topet) AYO who works with the Philippine Journal Inc., is our Vice President for Metro Manila. Sa mga dili pa nakaaram, naasawa baga niya si Marlee Casals, who is a Makati based Attorney. Both are very active in this undertaking.

The Manila group is having monthly meetings. Normally, these meeting are held in SM MEGAMALL, Bldg A, Basement, Bowling Center. This place in SM is being managed by Jennifer Ranosa. Siya an boss didto. By the way, daraga pa guihapon si Jennifer. In that place, she is known as Maam "JR".

We just had our meeting last Sunday, March 26. It was attended by Estrella Cepe-Carino, who is a Doctor (OB-GYNE) in V-Luna Hospital, Arabella Deyto (I forgot her new family name now) who is married to a Doctor. Jinky, who is a Med Tech by profession, I think, heads the Histopath Section of the Kidney Center. Bernie Donor was also there with her mother, si Mrs. Donor (an maestra ta sa Geometry), and Bernie's family. Bagan siya an ER Nurse sa PGH. She is also married to a Doctor. Nanduon din si Linda Deocareza-Mina at si Heide Fajardo Merez. I heard that both of them, being CPAs started with SGV. Linda is now the Business Manager of PNB Shangrila Plaza in Ortigas, while Heide is the Manager of Human Resources of FUJI Electric. Eddie Boy, Arsenio Sy who owns his company and Rosario Rempillo-Tabuzo were also there.

We expected other batchmates in Manila to join us. Pero dili sinda nakaabot. Siguro may mga kaulangan man. Pero we were able to talk to Amycel Lozada who even gave Annlyn's telephone, Ronnie Abitria and Luningning Santos. Amycel manages her company while Ronnie is a Civil Engineer in NAPOCOR. Ning Santos is the Chief of Records in the DENR Region IV.

Earlier, I also met Cedric Meneses and Emmanuel Ables. Both are Civil Engineers. Cedric is connected with Steel Centre Phils and is busy attending to an Airport Project in Iloilo City. Jun Ables is connected with the San Pedro, Laguna Engineering. But right now, Jun Ables is constructing a house in Sorsogon City.

Anyway, in our meeting, we talked about how to trace our batchmates in Metro Manila. Among others, we intend to publish an announcement in the TV and Newspapers calling our batchmates to register with us. We want as many as possible to attend. I volunteered my Law Office here in Ortigas as place where they can register. Its number is 910-1587/9102258. We also talked about our (Manila Chapter) intention to handle the SOUVENIR PROGRAM. We will volunteer Bernie Donor and Eddie Boy Gacias to be our point persons. We believe, the quality of the work will be so much better if it is done here in Manila, while there are possibly more donors/sponsors that we can also solicit from here in Manila. Accordingly, we will propose to Noli and company that this responsibility be given to Manila Chapter.

Arsenio Sy also proposed that our reunion should espouse a THEME. Something meaningful and timely. This theme should be the basis of whatever pattern or design that we will adopt for our T-Shirts, caps and other paraphernalias or decorations on our reunion and even for the cover of our Souvenir Program. We support this idea.

Jenny Ranosa also brought up the idea that the streamers be sponsored by big advertisers, like San Miguel, para makatipid kita.

Lastly, we also support the earlier idea of Arlene and Cesar that our batch should sponsor some meaningful and more lasting projects, like providing for scholarship to deserving children of some of our batchmates or donating computers to SNHS, and the registration of our batch as a non-stock, non-profit corporation.

Kun may nalimutan ako isurat didi, pasensiya na lamang.

Joseph

Subject: May 21 meeting of Manila Chapter

Author:
Joseph Dechavez

Date Posted: 07:06:12 05/31/06 Wed

Hi to all!

I'm happy to inform you that the Manila Chapter had its regular monthly meeting on May 21 in the Dulcinea Restaurant at SM Megamall.

During our meeting, we voted unanimously to indorse the theme chosen by the Sorsogon Chapter. Nano man daw an napili san mga nasa abroad?

Having accepted the responsibility of preparing the Souvenir Program, we chose a group of people to compose the Editorial Board with Arlene Mirandilla-Escalante, our Valedictorian at the helm as Editor-in-Chief.

We also agreed that in order for us to undertaake solicitations legally, we will register our alumni association in the SEC and then with the BIR, the latter to enable us to issue official receipts for every cent that we will receive. In this way, we will be able to account easily and without question our moneys, both the income and expenses.

We also agreed on the cost per page of the program.

Since we are spending our personal money for our every meeting which is proving to be very costly to the attendees, I suggested that on our succeeding meetings, we will just meet in my Office at Suite 707, 7th Floor, OMM-CITRA Bldg., San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
Our next meeting is scheduled on June 25, 2006. Magdara na lang tabi an mga maka-attend sin maski nano na mababalon na pagkaon. Sa akon na an mahagkot na tubig asin mainit na kape.

This week, my office has already reserved the name we applied with the SEC. It is SORSOGON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Class of 1982 INC.

Earlier, Arlene invited all of us, members of batch '82 to join our 25th year celebration in 2007. She also made an appeal to help raise the funds required for that occasion.

While i'm here in California, I tried calling some of our classmates. I've talked with Charmea Dreu, Christine De Mesa, Leny Grayda, Angievine Diesta and Lauro Velasco. When I told them about our preparations, they were one in saying that they will give their shares. Of course, I do not have to mention, Edgar Echano and Susan Dichoso-Echano and Arlene, as the latter were the one who tasked me to make those premeditated calls. But more than giving their shares, on my part I pleaded for them to be in Sorsogon in 2007.

After all, the celebration of an event will never be successful without them and all of us,I mean, the members of batch '82.

May I also say that I would second the suggestion of our Valedictorian Arlene to register our Batch as an organization. The benefit is tremendous when our group will have a legal personality. It will not only add formality to our existence ( which, I would insist, should go beyond 2007), but will enable it to go about its business without hitch, (e.g. raise funds, issue receipts, open bank accounts, own or properties) without its officers solely accountable therefor. What I would suggest.. is to register our batch as a non-stock, non-profit corporation. Thereafter, it may be called SNHS Class 82 Inc. Initially, the members of the board of trustees are the present officers while all of our names will be attached to the Articles of Incorporations as its members and whatever funds it has now will be its initial capital. Registering our group to become an entity would be a breeze, legally and administratively and would not cost that much. It is done all the time in other schools and organizations. Even simple fraternities and school clubs can be registered. Besides, we have several lawyers and CPA's in the class that can advise us on the details of this.

Last week, I received a Christmas Card signed by several of our classmates together with a letter of solicitation from Noli Lustestica, our incumbent President. I'm impressed about what they are doing. They found my address. Let us appreciate the efforts that they are doing now at their end. They are at the forefront of these preparations. Let us do our share by establishing contact with them, maybe through ouir Secretary, Grace Chua-Jardin (CP# 0916-434-6006/Tel#056-211-3351/gracejardin@yahoo.com).

In this respect, may I also suggest that the incumbent officers designate at least two (2) representatives from each class to find the whereabouts of their respective classmates and make a periodic report to Grace or on this website, if abroad. In this manner, I just thought that maybe, we can be more efficient in finding all of us. May I also say that in trying to find our classmates, let us start with their relatives in Sorsogon. They must have info about them.

I'll be flying back to the Philippines by the year end. To all those based in Manila, You can check on me in my office: DECHAVEZ, BUGAYONG & CONCEPCION Law Offices at Suite 707, 7th Floor, OMM-Citra Bldg., Ortigas Center, Pasig City/tel.+632-910-1587/jfmdechavez@hotmail.com.

Hello to all!

Just got this news from Frank Elizaga that Noel Lagueras and Rolan Lachica have a new entertainment business in Sorsogon called ROCK IN MUSIC featuring live bands. The place was formally opened last August 8 with Noli, Frank, Anto, Kiko and other '82 boys as guests of honor. :)

So, when you visit Sorsogon, you know where to meet your batchmates while enjoying food and music. Of course, this will be a favorite place for Batch '82. Sabi ngani sa kanta san Cheers... "you wanna go where everybody knows your name." :)

To Noel and Rolan - CONGRATULATIONS and good wishes to both of you.

Joseph, that was one hell of a story or litany as you (aptly?) stated !!! You seem to have been very busy indeed !!!

Am so sorry about your loss. My father’s 1st death anniversary is forthcoming and I still can’t help feeling the ache and loss… It reminds us of our very own mortality…

Anyway, I attended the meeting of our batchmates or shall I say classmates (my grandmother always corrects me whenever she hears me mentioning reunion of batchmates… Apparently, the entire SNHS batch 1982 should be appropriately called class of 1982… but we got used to using the term batch instead of class and class instead of section …) and since no one has posted the outcome of said meeting, perhaps it would be nice to share what transpired during the meeting…

More or less 30 classmates attended the traditional SNHS parade. Class 1982 has its own banner and motorcade. We also have our own printed shirts with the logo “NABALIK INI” and an inverted “21” superimposed on it. See how time flies!!! It’s been 21 years since we graduated from high school !!! Yet, whenever we attend our class reunions, it would seem that we are transported in time and we are back when we were in high school then. The parade as a whole seemed to be short and only a few attended the reunion. Topet and I joined the parade when it passed Sampaloc on its way back to SNHS. We gathered at the football field/ball ground (I forgot how we used to call it). The sun was high as it was almost noon. The wind, once in a while, blew the dust particles right into our faces!!! There was a stage infront of (the late?) Ms. Loilo’s room stretching perhaps up to Mr. Zamora’s room where we had our Laura at Balagtas and Practical Arts lessons, respectively. The stage was facing SCAT. After some refreshments, ibos from Gagay Yap and picture taking, we proceeded to Mrs. Celerina Donor’s house in Gate 1, Bibincahan. We ate lunch and elected the officers for our class. I was also busy talking with classmates, taking pictures, etc. that the election seems to be a blur to me. HA HA HA !!! In other words, I wasn’t paying much attention !!! mea culpa !!! From what I can recall, at first there was an election but this eventually lead to mere appointments and there were no more nominations or votes being cast!!! Here’a run down of the officers:

President : Noli Lustestica
Vice President for Sorsogon Crisanto Duana (??? Am not so sure about this)
Vice President for Manila: Antonio Ayo, Jr.
Vice President for Abroad: Arlene Mirandilla-Escalante
Secretary : Jennifer Jubilo-Asuncion
(I suggested an Assistant Secretary in the person of Livia
Adame but am not sure whether one was elected or
appointed)
Treasurer : Francisco Corcuera
PRO for Sorsogon Livia Adame and Paul Advincula
PRO for Manila Bernadette Donor-Catabijan

Hello!
I was looking for a chilhood friend and the search engine referred me to your site. I am also your batchmate but from a different school. I graduated from Our Lady of Penafrancia Seminary. I also want to know the whereabouts of Francis Abrantes because he was my batchmate in the seminary for a year. One of your batchmate, Rene John Espenida, who happens to be my classmate in elementary and a padi', is now the Municipal Assessor of Gubat, just got married last year, and is now waiting for his first-born.
Any info from Francis is very much appreciated because his bestfriend during his first year in the seminary is also looking for him.
Thanks a lot.

SA MGA NAGBABALAK MAGBISITA SA SORSOGON... I'd like to share this article with you which I found on the website of the Philippine Information Agency (http://www.pia.gov.ph/press/p030329.htm)...

======================================================
Sorsogon launches Balik Sorsogon 2003 program

SORSOGON CITY (29 March) — The Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Council (SPTC) has launched Balik Sorsogon 2003 program to entice Sorsoganons now living in other parts of the country, and more especially those now living in other countries to come home even for just a short visit to renew ties with relatives and friends and enjoy Sorsogon’s many attractions.

The Balik Sorsogon program at the same time seeks to drum up international interest on the province of Sorsogon which is home to the gentle giants of the sea — the Butanding or whale sharks — and the pristine and green Bulusan Mountain Lake Resort.

The Balik Sorsogon Program is being undertaken by the SPTC in conjunction with the 2003 Kasanggayahan Festival slated October 17 - 30, which is spearheaded by the Kasanggayahan Foundation, Inc. and the Sorsogon provincial government to commemorate the foundation anniversary of the province. The province will be celebrating its 109th year anniversary as a separate province from Albay.

The Kasanggayahan Festival Committee, chaired by Msgr. Francisco P. Monje, has set October 20 as Balik Sorsogon Day, which will feature socials and interaction with locals, relatives and friends, local government officials and civic leaders, cultural entertainment, tree planting at the Bacon-Manito Geothermal Facility Ecopark, and a tour of the many tourist attractions within Sorsogon City.

Other featured activities for the festival which can be enjoyed by the Balik Sorsoganons include the Pilgrimage to Gibalong in Magallanes town which is reputed to be the site of the first mass in Luzon Island, the historico-cultural parade participated by all municipalities, heritage lectures by Sorsogon expert historical and cultural researchers and writers, a series of cultural presentations at the Capitol Park, an agro-industrial and trade fair showcasing Sorsogon’s handicrafts, and the inimitable Pantomina sa Tinampo, or dancing the Pantomina, the traditional Bikol love dance, in the streets of Sorsogon City.

SPTC chair Cecilia H. Duran, however, explained that the Balik Sorsoganons can come visiting at anytime during the year, especially during the festival months held in other towns of the province, such as the Pili Festival of Sorsogon City which coincides with its pastoral fiesta in honor of Sts. Peter and Paul, June 24-30; the Ginubat Festival of Gubat town, June 13; the Butanding Arribada Festival of Donsol, first week of March; the Padaraw Festival of Bulan, last week of May; Paroy Festival of Irosin, last week of September; and the Paraw Festival of Pilar, second week of October.

But, according to the SPTC chair, if the Balik Sorsoganons can come during the October Kasanggayahan Festival, they will not only be able to participate and enjoy the Festival but also join their relatives in the traditional family reunions during the Piyesta sa Gadan (All Souls’ Day) to commemorate their loved ones who have passed away.

The Balik Sorsogon Program, according to Mrs. Duran, is also covered by the overall Visit Philippines 2003 program of the Department of Tourism (DoT), which means, all balikbayans and visitors during the year will be able to avail of discounts in most tourism-oriented establishments in the country, such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, souvenir and service shops.

All they have to do, according to Ms. Duran is inform the SPTC in advance when they intend to come so that they can be received properly at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Legazpi City Airport where reception groups are stationed year-round.

For Balik Sorsoganons, the contact persons are Ms. Duran with e-mail address, ceciliahduran@yahoo.com, Reynaldo T. Jamoralin at toots528@hotmail.com, or they can visit the Sorsogon website at www.sorsogontourism.com. (SPTC)
