If a sibling were spared from a genetic mutation or if I was the one spared, I would have mixed emotions. If a sibling were spared, I would be relieved for him or her; however, I would probably feel some resentment and wonder why I had been the one to get the mutation. This question would also arise if I had been spared; why is my sibling the one with the mutated gene? If I were spared, I would be happy for myself and yet feel guilty at the same time because my sibling is suffering. In either situation, there would be some relief, anger, resentment, and guilt.
