I think initially anyone would feel resentful of the healthy sibling and angry at this obvious display of the unfairness of life. Why was I chosen to carry this deadly gene and she was not? However, with time and common sense, I would see that it is no one’s fault I was the carrier of a genetic mutation. No one chose this path for me, especially not my sister, and to blame her would be losing a potential ally. I can completely understand Sherry’s reactions of anger and loneliness, because she would never wish such pain on her sister, but it would be nice to be able to share it with her. If the tables were turned and my sister had the gene and I was spared, I would feel incredibly guilty that, by luck of the draw, I escaped such a fate. In both situations, there would be anger and guilt, but hopefully in time, we would both get over these feelings and support each other.
