I agree with Devon's response. I think that the reaction to the news that you have the cancer gene while your sibling was spared varies from person to person. As Devon said, initially probably most people would be resentful of the unafflicted sibling. I think in time I would stop blaming my sibling for something that is obviously not their fault and try towards positive thought and action. Others, however, may continue in this resentfulness and destroy their relationship with their sibling. If the tables were turned and my sibling was given the disease, I agree with Devon in that I would feel extreme guilt. I would feel helpless because there is not really anything I could do. In a lot of ways this feeling is worse than if I had the cancer gene because, in the first scenario, I think I would get over that feeling and move on, but I think it would be much harder to let go of the guilt.
