Fiona is correct in that Lani would have a false sense of security but she should not. Although the risk of Ovarian cancer is increased when you have a sister, mother or daughter that has it, not having the BRAC1 gene could give Lani a less of a risk of getting it. She is by no means immune from getting it because just by being an older woman increases the risk of getting it. If Lani does not eat right, exercise and take care of herself she can increase her chances of getting ovarian cancer. In conclusion, just by not having the mutated gene does not make her immune to ovarian cancer. There are many other risk factors she has to be aware of. By seeing a doctor she can get information and increase her understanding of the disease.
