I think there is a good reason for Janet's testing. Although there is no known cure for Alzheimer's, if the patient, in this case Janet, is tested positive and it is therefore probable he/she will get Alzheimer's when they age the patient and their family can be as prepared as possible if that is to happen. Janet and her family may be under emotional stress due to the result, but whatever amount of stress they have is most likely nothing compared to the stress a family would have if a member was suddenly struck with Alzheimer's and they were unprepared. Although Janet's family has a lot of emotional stress, the preparation they are able to make due to the testing may lessen the stress they will have if and when Janet does get Alzhemier's. I am not saying it won't be an emotionally painful time, but knowing what to expect might make the time less stressful.
