There is nothing wrong with wanting to maintain the "quality of life." However, if there is an implication that if the "quality of life" slips someone, such as Janet, will attempt to commit suicide a burden is placed on the shoulders of all those around her. They now have to be responsible that Janet always has a good perception of life. That is unfair. It is hard enough for those around her already in dealing with the fact that someone close to them is highly likely to get Alzheimer's disease. Forcing them to constantly watch her because in the back of her mind she is always suicidal makes a bad situation worse. The family, friends and physician now have to deal with to problems: Janet's probability of getting Alzheimer's and her suicidal thoughts.
