I think Mary made many good points in her response. Test results can help Janet and her family to prepare emotionally for the effect Alzheimer's will have in their lives. Negative results could also relieve stress, however, positive results could increase stress tremendously. Positive results, although not a definite promise of Alzheimer's, can cause the patient to become overly obsessed or depressed, without even knowing for sure that they will develop the disease. This would lead to an unhappy lifestyle for both the patient and the patietnt's family, which would make it seem as if it is better to just not know. There are both pros and cons for testing, and every person needs to evaluate whether or not testing is right for them.
