I agree, Lauren, positivity and unbeatness would be crucial in counselling a terminally ill Alzheimer's patient. Your suggestion that she not refer to herself as "pre-Alzheimer's" is very preceptive, because this predetermination of contracting the disease might bring a sense of hopelessness to her life, and with this feeling it might be difficult to fully combat the disease.

However, this sense of predetermination can also be beneficial. In one sense it prepares one to face Alzheimer’s, so that developing the disease is not deathly shock. This way the patient has time to accept his or her possible fate, do research on symptoms, and possible medications and treatments. This time of preparation is vital to a healthy acceptance.
