I strongly agree with Marissa that Janet, now "armed" with the test results, will be better prepared to confront the disease for which she has spent her entire life preparing. As Marissa discussed, genetic counseling would be both helpful and almost imperative for Janet and her family to deal with such a devastating diagnosis. Genetic counseling can help Janet come to a better understanding of the disease, and can inform her and her family of clinical studies and preventative measures that could begin right away for the children who now carry the gene. Knowing that she has the gene could render Janet more perceptive towards new treatment and mentally prepare her for the hardships that lie ahead. The family can remain updated about the disease and its developments, as well as live healthy lifestyles that can keep them in the best of health so Alzheimer's may not affect them as severly, and they won't acquire any additional health defects that could further threaten their lives.
