Buffy believes that the Hellmouth MUST be guarded, for the safety of the world. She also believes that she is the best-qualified person for the job, possibly even the only qualified person. Although both of these beliefs may be wrong, she can't afford to assume that - because if they're correct, the consequences of inaction would be disastrous. Morally, she really doesn't have much choice.

I believe that she did have a choice. Even morally. I find the idea that because someone possesses an ability through accident of birth should be obligated for a certain duty. That scenario seems to rob the individual of personal choice.

I believe that a person should be responsible for the choices he or she makes. I don't think that someone should be obligated toward a certain "duty" or life, due to accident of birth.
