To me, Xander's change of character was a lot more implicit than the others. Episodes such as 'Zeppo' and 'The Replacement' were indications to the fact the he had become more confident and had more faith in himself. I will admit that Xander's hypocrasy has been something of a constant (well I wouldn't even call it a constant) but that is what I would call consistency of character, which was demonstrated in juxtaposition with his growth of character.

In season 5 Xander developed into being the sort of person who could actually do stuff, have a career and consider marriage. I admit jilting Anya at the alter wasn't the most mature thing to do but some of us revert to what we were when we doubt ourselves. He goes back to being 'Failure Xander' but I think since then he's moved foward but in a less obvious way some of the other scoobies.

Journeys don't have to be dramatic to be significant. One cannot watch episodes such as the Zeppo and The Replacement and say he hasn't grown. Sure his 'Spike moment' demonstrated he can still revert to immature Xander but surely that cannot nullify the character development he has acheived.
