It has gotten so bad that Spike appears to be the voice of reason and moderation.

Lol. The irony is amusing.

Speaking just for myself and not Mutant Enemy, I compare Angel to a guy passing through his mid-life crises. He gave up his ideals to get power, which he tries to use for good but gets stymied by the reality and inertia of a large corporation. He had the sportscar and young girlfriend, but felt like he had lost a lot more. Now he doesn't even have those things.

Gunn learned so much last year about what he is capable of, both bad and good, and had the strength to accept his failures and learn from them. He always was an amazing character, and one big reason for the virtual season is seeing him grow.

I think that when people find art (or fanfic, lol) meaningful it's because they develop a kind of relationship to the piece. Everyone interprets it slightly differently because they have different experiences and personality. Maybe the trick is to make the theme or experiences of the characters universal enough to appeal to everyone, yet unique enough to entertain as well. Interpretation is different for every person. Author intent is interesting to read about, at least for me, but not essential for my interpretation of the art. But audience input is such a huge bonus for us writers and producers, because then we know if we are getting our ideas across, and if the audience is having fun.

We're having more fun that a room full of ferrets, lol.
