This is because we are focusing on the wind and the leaf as separate things. One cannot be without the other. The wind cannot be seen without something moving in it, the effect. It is empty space. The leaf becomes the object in that space. It is the relationship between the leaf and the wind that gives them form, meaning and beauty. Wash cannot be a pilot without his ship. The ship cannot fly without him.

We are interactive within our environment whether we like it or not. No man... So Wash is just one more depiction of that action of being human, choosing, going forward. We all will have an end, staked or not. The life cycle.
