It was not really the score that I was referring to, it was the use of pop music as a vehicle to express emotion. This is no doubt a much too narrow concept of music. . I think Buffy has more of a pop sensibility which only makes sense for a show about young people. I can think of four instances off the top of my head (Becoming Part II, Tabula Rasa, Grave, and Conversations With Dead People) where the lyrics, or more precisely the use of the human voice to express emotion, really struck a cord in me. . I guess I am a sucker for melancholy. Certainly a score itself, such as Sacrifice in The Gift can also express emotion so but there is something about the lyrics which when properly chosen, can really affect me. Just a matter of taste and in no way did I mean to suggest that the music of Angel was not of a high quality.
By the way, as far as Angel vs Angelus, I come down solidly in favor of Angelus.
