One of my favorite uses of a pop song as commentary and a vehicle to move the action along is in the underappreciated episode Harsh Light of Day. As Buffy and Parker move their relationship towards consumation through Parker's apparently sincere, but in retrospect slimy, seduction, Bif Naked plays a perfect version of Lucky as they pose as a generic frat house band. The music swells and diminishes according to the dialogue and action and the direction and editing are perfect. Check it out.
