WILLPOWER PART 2x05: SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO GOOD

We find ourselves at a meeting. A large group of men and women; mostly men, sit on uncomfortable-looking
chairs facing a small podium. There is a man sitting behind a small desk on the podium who quickly opens
the meeting.
MAYOR
As Mayor of Sunnydale, it is my great privilege to open the first annual Sunnydale shopkeepers
meeting.
We see Giles sitting in the third row at the far side of the room. Next to him is sitting a blonde woman in
her late fourties or early fifties.
GILES *soft* *to himself*
How can it be annual if it's the first time?
MAYOR
The purpose of this meeting is to hand ideas to decrease the looting, vandalism,
shoplifting and the violent deaths.
SHOPOWNER 1
I think that there should be a large number of policeofficers assigned to preventing those things.
SHOPOWNER 2
No! The shopkeepers should be given more rights to defend themselves.
SHOPOWNER 3
No.... people have rights.... even the ones who break the law
Giles is following the discussion with a confused look on his face. The shopkeepers are talking about the troubles
as if it were young humans committing the crimes and not vampires and other demons.
GILES *soft* *to himself*

The woman next to him turns her head to him.
WOMAN *soft*

Vampires mostly.... and sometimes something even weirder
Giles is completely perplexed.

Well.... apparently not.......What kind of shop do you own?
WOMAN *soft*
I own a shop that deals in the occult. I opened it three weeks ago but so far I've seen more
demons than customers.
GILES *smiles* *soft*
Well, you're still alive, so it could be worse........ you don't have a lot of customers?
WOMAN *soft*
I guess business is slower here than I thought.
GILES *soft*
I don't have any complaints about the amount of customers at the Magic Box..... it's also a shop
that deals in the occult. I have had the business for years.
WOMAN *smiles* *soft*
So *that's* why there are so few customers..... somebody's already doing the same thing.

MAYOR
Sir! Could you please direct all suggestions towards here and we'll try to shape order into this
meeting.
GILES *very soft*

The Mayor can see that Giles' lips move. He can't hear what he said though.
MAYOR
Excuse me?
GILES
Nothing
Giles and Arianna smile at each other and then direct their attention towards the Mayor
MAYOR
Well, we've heard some idead. Now I can tell you that.....
The Mayor suddenly stops talking. He doesn't move for a few seconds but then he falls forward; face first on the
desk. There is a small blade between the Mayor's shoulderblades. One of the shopkeepers on the front row immediately
stands up and rushes towards the Mayor. He feels the Mayor's pulse.
SHOPKEEPER *towards everyone*
He's dead
Giles looks puzzled. How could this happen? They were all watching the Mayor when he was stabbed. Arianna looks at
Giles who doesn't seem too surprised.
ARIANNA *to Giles*
You've seen this sort of things before?
GILES *to Arianna*
Sadly.... too many times

Willow and Kennedy are at the Magic Box. It's night and the two are in the back room standing opposite to each other.
KENNEDY *begging*

WILLOW

KENNEDY *smiles*

Kennedy and Willow take fighting positions.
KENNEDY
You don't have to hold back....... no magic!
WILLOW *smiles*

KENNEDY
Ready?
Willow nods. Kennedy then moves a little closer to Willow; getting into striking distance. She then lands a punch
in Willow's face. Willow's reaction is a mix of surprise and pain...... but more surprise.
WILLOW
Ooow!
KENNEDY *laughs*
Oh my god...... you really suck at this
WILLOW
I was just....... let's try again
They take the same starting positions.
KENNEDY
Ready?
WILLOW
Completely
Kennedy lunges forward, aiming her fist at Willow's face again. This time, Willow anticipated that move. She jumps
sideways and at the same time, swings her arm with force so that it hits Kennedy's head. Kennedy immediately falls
down. She doesn't say anything and lays dazed on the floor.
WILLOW
Kennedy!
She kneels down to Kennedy.
KENNEDY *hurt ego*
I'm..... fine
Kennedy tries to stand up but falls down immediately
KENNEDY
That is..... as soon as the world stops spinning
WILLOW
Sorry
KENNEDY
I don't know what hurts more, my head or my ego.......... you didn't use magic, did you?
Willow waits a few seconds before answering.
WILLOW
Well..... nothing big
Kennedy seems to like this answer and tries to get up again. She manages to stay up this time.
KENNEDY *smiles*

We are at the Magic Box a few hours later. Willow and Giles are sitting at the table.
WILLOW *smiles*
.....so I just told her I used a spell. I think I hurt her ego a bit with that hit
Giles quietly laughs.
WILLOW *serious*
How is she doing with the training?
Giles stops with the laughing and gets serious too.
GILES
All things considered...... pretty good
WILLOW *smiles*
Uh Giles..... what do you mean by that? I can't exactly search your mind for what you mean.........
ok, maybe I can.
GILES
Well...... she's not a slayer, so naturally, the training will go slower. She has what it takes
but it means taking things slow. And don't forget that *you've* been fighting demons for years with
Buffy......... and that maybe, you just got a lucky hit.
WILLOW *serious*
I'm just afraid that something like this is going to happen when it's not me... but a demon.
GILES *smiles*
That's where the rest of us comes in.
Giles decides to drop the subject.
GILES
I have seen something interesting tonight....... the Mayor of Sunnydale was stabbed in front
of a hundred people and nobody saw a thing.
WILLOW
And the knife?
GILES
Quite small, but more than enough. It striked in his throat from the back.
WILLOW
Okay.... that has gotta hurt.........any theories?
GILES
I'm thinking telekinesis....... or maybe the knife was enchanted or something
WILLOW
Enchanted to stab someone........ doubtfull
GILES
What do you think?
WILLOW
I don't know. You wouldn't happen to get the knife?
GILES
Well no, the police arrived pretty fast...... him being the Mayor and all....... and they didn't
really like me taking the evidence......... but if you ask me, it was just a normal knife.
WILLOW
I don't really know. Telekinesis is a possibility. But on the other hand, maybe someone just
threw the knife in his throat.
GILES
*That* I don't buy...... but you're right.... we don't have enough evidence to support any theory.
WILLOW

You know..... I met someone interesting there..... a woman who own a shop just like the Magic Box.
WILLOW *smiles*
Ah, competition for our capitalist storekeeper

Hardly.... she says that business is very slow. She knew about vampires and demons and she was very
interested in how I keep my store safe.
Willow stops smiling.
WILLOW *suspicous*

That night, Willow, Kennedy, Kate, Xander and Dawn are sitting in the Summers' living room. Andrew is putting a
video in the VCR. Kate browses through the video's on the table. When she's halfway through the pile, she stops.
KATE *laughs* *to Xander*

XANDER *defensive*
Don't look at me, Andrew insisted
ANDREW
Hey! You agreed with me
DAWN *to Andrew*
Well, I like your movies
Dawn and Andrew start kissing.
KATE
Okay, when I see Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks kissing.... alright. But you two..... please stop
Dawn breaks the kiss for just a fraction of a second.
DAWN
Mmmm.. shut up
Dawn resumes the kissing.
XANDER *to Kate*
Don't take it personal.
KENNEDY
I'm surprised Giles isn't here.
WILLOW
Are you kidding? He's probably reading a book about now, which is so much more fun for him...... You
know, I think Giles is in love.
Everyone stops talking (and kissing) and looks at Willow.
DAWN
What?
XANDER
Giles?
WILLOW
Well, it *has* happened before
XANDER
How did you come to this extremely amusing conclusion?
WILLOW
He met this woman at some shopkeepers meeting..... she also owns a magic shop. He told her about
the anti-violence spell on the Magic Box.
XANDER
You mean that woman knows about you?
WILLOW
Well, he didn't mention me by name or anything.... anyway, he asked me to do the same spell at
her shop...... which also happens to be a magic shop.
KATE
Well, seems like that crazy shopkeepers meeting wasn't for nothing after all
WILLOW
It was actually an exciting evening...... the Mayor got killed
DAWN
What happened?
WILLOW
He was stabbed in the back while everyone watched him and nobody saw how it happened. Me and Giles
are thinking telekinesis.
XANDER
Ah, same old, same old
ANDREW
Yeah, let's keep the chitchat down and watch the movie
DAWN
It's not like we haven't seen weird stuff before
XANDER
And somehow, a dead Mayor doesn't affect me the way it used to

The next day, somewhere in the afternoon, Dawn comes home from school.
DAWN *shouts*
Hello, is anybody home?
There is no answer. Dawn quickly moves upstairs and into Willow's room. She immediately notices that Willow's
magic books are not on the shelf where they're supposed to be. Dawn smiles, Willow obviously heard that Dawn
went through her books. Dawn crouches on the floor and looks under the bed where she notices a large box.
She pulls the box from under the bed. When she opens it, she sees that it is filled with the books that were
on the shelf.
DAWN *to herself*
Oh come on Willow..... under the bed?!
She then notices a small note on top of the books. It says, "Dawn, stay out of these..... I mean it!".
Dawn smiles. As if such a puny note can stop someone looking for knowledge. Dawn grabs one of the books
and opens it. The moment she opens it, Dawn knows that something is wrong. The letters are all weird and seem
to be moving.
DAWN *defeated*
Very funny Willow, but the question is.... did you cast them on all the books
Dawn wants to grab the second book in the pile when she notices a second note that was under the first book
but is visible now. It says: "Last warning Dawn. You open the next book and you're going to have a problem"
DAWN *smiles*
Yeah right
Without taking the warning into consideration, Dawn opens the second book. Immediately, a wave of energy flows
from the book to Dawn. It surprises Dawn but it doesn't hurt her.
DAWN *smiles*

Dawn looks at the pages but they're unreadable like before.
DAWN
Not funny
Dawn's gaze then wanders a little to the left and right. She looks at her hand, which are holding the book.
Dawn's eyes grow wide. Her hands are far paler than usual. Dawn drops the open book on the floor, stands up and
practically runs to the mirror. She looks into the mirror and notices that her entire body is whitened considerably.
It's not like she's really white, it just looks like she has never been in the sun before. Dawn jaw drops.
DAWN *shocked*

Willow and Kennedy come home together.
KENNEDY
You're gonna do that spell for Giles tonight? Are you sure that's a good idea?
WILLOW
Oh come on, Giles really wants me to..... besides, I'm kinda curious about this woman.
KENNEDY

Kennedy notices Dawn sitting on the couch in the living room, with an angry expression on her face, looking at them.
KENNEDY *surprised*
Oh my god Dawn. What happened to you?
Dawn doesn't answer but looks at Willow. Willow can barely keep her laughter under control.
DAWN *hysterical*

WILLOW *laughs*

KENNEDY *to Willow*
What is going on here?
WILLOW *to Dawn*
Remember that note saying you'd have a problem if you opened the next book
DAWN *frowns*

Kennedy quickly realizes what happened.
KENNEDY
You cast a spell on your books?
WILLOW *smiles*

DAWN

Willow stops laughing and walks over to Dawn.
WILLOW
Don't worry Dawn, it'll wear off six or seven hours
DAWN
But Xander, Andrew and Kate are picking me up in ten minutes!
WILLOW
I see
KENNEDY *nice*
Oh come on Willow...... I'm sure you can reverse the spell
DAWN *begging*
Please...... I can't let Andrew and Xander see me like this
WILLOW
Can I take it that you're gonna stay out of the books when I tell you?
DAWN
Yes... yes
WILLOW
Fine........ come with me
Willow walks upstairs and Dawn follows her. Kennedy walks behind Dawn. They all enter Willow's room.
Willow grabs the open book from the floor and closes it. Immediately, Dawn's skin color returns to
normal.
DAWN
What?! That's it?!
WILLOW
Pretty much........ Dawn, these books are dangerous
DAWN
Yeah, I think I got that
WILLOW
No, I mean the spells within these books are dangerous
DAWN
Hey, it saved you when this demon took control of your body. If it weren't for that spell,
you would still be in your little fantasy world with Tara
No sooner did Dawn say that or she realizes she shouldn't have said it.
KENNEDY *shocked*
Tara as in.... your ex?
WILLOW *smiles awkwardly*

KENNEDY *upset*

WILLOW *quiet*

Kennedy walks out of the room with Willow following her. Dawn runs after them. Kennedy runs downstairs and opens
the front door, only to find Xander, Andrew and Kate standing there. Kennedy runs right past them.
XANDER
Uh... am I invisible?
He then sees Willow running down the stairs and Dawn following her. She stops at the door, realizing following her
is pointless. Dawn comes downstairs a couple seconds later.
ANDREW *awkward* *to Dawn*
What the hell happened here?
DAWN *quick*
Nothing
XANDER
Will?
Willow doesn't answer and walks upstairs again. Xander calmly walks after her. The rest stays downstairs.
Upstairs, Xander enters Willow's room and find Willow sitting on the bed with her back to Xander.
XANDER *comforting*
What happened Will?
WILLOW *sighs*
When Radament had me trapped inside my mind...... he created sort of a fantasy world for me to keep
me surpressed.
XANDER
Yeah, I heard that
WILLOW
I was with Tara...... and Kennedy just found out
XANDER *shocked*
Okay, I didn't hear that
Willow turns towards Xander.
WILLOW
What the hell am I going to do?
XANDER
Let her cool off.... and then hope for the best
WILLOW
You think she'll get over it?
XANDER
Sure. You two love each other, right?
WILLOW *sad*
Yes.... but it's so different from what me and Tara had. I think Kennedy just realized that
XANDER
She's just surprised. She probably expected that you were over her.
WILLOW
I don't think I'll ever really get over her.
Xander stand up and walks to the doorway of Willow's room.
XANDER
There's only one thing you *can* do...... wait

At one of the local cemetaries, Kennedy is walking with a steady pace. She has an angry expression and
she keeps looking around her. Considering the fast walking, she's exceptionally quiet.
Very soon, she spots a vampire who immediately attacks her. He jumps towards her and lands right in front
of Kennedy. He then puches Kennedy in the face twice. Kennedy kicks the vampire with force so he staggers
back a few feet and then falls backwards. Kennedy grabs a stake from her coat and waits for the vampire to
come towards her. The vampire wastes no time and gets to his feet. Without hesitation, he rushes towards her.
Before Kennedy can react, the vampire uses his full body weight to ram Kennedy. Kennedy falls down on the
floor and drops her stake. The vampire leans down and goes for the kill when suddenly, his expression changes
and he looks down at his chest.
VAMPIRE *shocked*
No
The vampire turns to dust.
KATE (O.S) *sarcastic*
Please, no applause
We now see Kate, holding a stake. It's not the same on Kennedy was using because that is still on the floor.
KENNEDY
What the hell are you doing? I *had* him!
Kennedy gets up and grabs her stake from the floor.
KATE
You *had* him?!
KENNEDY
Yeah, that's right
KATE
Uh huh..... you look pissed. You and Willow not doing so well?
KENNEDY
I really don't feel like talking about that with you
Kennedy turns away and walks away slowly.
KATE
Suit yourself, but I think I'm the best person to talk about this with you
Kennedy stops.
KENNEDY *annoyed*
What do you mean by that?
KATE *smiles*
Simple..... if you tell Xander or the kid, they'll take Willow's side
KENNEDY *surprised*
And you won't? I was under the impression that you don't like me
KATE
Well, you're not wrong. (laugh) But I don't like Willow either so I'm impartial here.
KENNEDY *confused*
Okay, this *so* weird.... that actually makes sense
KATE *smiles*

KENNEDY *suspicious*

KATE
You found out about Willow and that other girl, huh?
KENNEDY *shocked*

KATE *defensive*
We all knew that. Dawn told us about it when we asked what happened.
KENNEDY
That's so typical. They all just hid it.
KATE
And for a reason if I may say
KENNEDY
You're saying you agree with them?
KATE
Well, it obviously had a bad effect on you...... besides, it wasn't real
KENNEDY
You don't get it.... she was where she was happiest.... and I wasn't there.
KATE
You're jealous of a dead person?
KENNEDY
At least Willow loved her. I'm just the rebound girl.
KATE
Or maybe she loves you both and you're being unreasonable
Kennedy sits down on the floor.
KENNEDY *sad*
I thought she loved me the way I loved her
KATE *shrugs*
Maybe she does, maybe she doesn't....... There's only one way to find out
KENNEDY *sad*

KATE
Duh! You two need to talk.... and the sooner the better
KENNEDY
I don't know
KATE *comforting*
For what it's worth...... (long pause)..... I think she loves you
Kennedy looks at Kate but she doesn't say anything back.
KATE
So?
KENNEDY
What?
KATE
Talk?
Kennedy smiles slightly.
KENNEDY *giving in*
Okay then
Kate helps Kennedy up and the two of them walk off.
KENNEDY
And just for the record.... I didn't need your help with that vampire
KATE *smiles* *sarcastic*

Willow is sitting alone in the living room when Kennedy enters, also alone. Kennedy immediately walks to
the living room; to Willow, and sits down.
KENNEDY
Hey
WILLOW *smiles*
Hey. I'm glad you came home to talk
Kennedy is quiet for quite a while. Then, an emotional expression appears on her face.
KENNEDY *emotional*
Do you love me?
WILLOW *emotional*
More than anything in this world and beyond it
KENNEDY *smiles* *emotional*
Really?
WILLOW *smiles* *emotional*
Of course silly
KENNEDY
But what about that other girl?
WILLOW
She's gone...... and I was just happy to see her again.
Kennedy stops talking and looks at the floor.
WILLOW *concerned*
What's wrong?
KENNEDY
I'm sorry
WILLOW *teary eyed*
You don't have to be sorry sweetie.
Willow stands up and hugs Kennedy tightly. They keep hugging.

We are in a well lit room. There is a desk in it with several chairs on the opposite side. There is a
banner with the Sunnydale High Razorbacks on the wall. There is a man on the floor with a knife
sticking in his chest. The knife looks exactly the same as the one that was used to kill the Mayor. We
don't see anyone else in the room. Then suddenly the door opens, but noone is behind it.
VOICE
That was fun
The door slams shut
