My prediction is based on the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown photos that I reviewed. Please understand, I don't know how these candidates will do or did in their preliminary interview. However, I reviewed the preliminary evening gown and preliminary swimsuit competitions photos the way I thought a judge in the panel would criticize each candidates, and I ended up with these 15 candidates.

let's just pray that Carla makes our country proud. we could never really tell what the judges' tastes will be so every candidate has a chance. for all the carla bashers out there, i hope you get a chance to compete internationally for your country while your kababayans bash you like crazy and see if it feels good.

we havent won a title in the major international pageants in a while so let's hope this year would be different.

Q: What is the latest FAD in your country?

CB: Well right now it’s summer in my country. So what we usually Filipinos wear is that spaghetti straps, (?- I didn’t get it), and pants that are printed with designs just like my pants right now and that is the latest design but u uhh.. and uhh.. usually in different parts of the wor.. uhh.. Philippines, there are people who wear long sleeves because it’s really cold like in Baguio.

– Mali ang subject-verb agreement. ‘Pag ang subject eh plural or more than one dapat eh plural verb din ang gagamitin. ‘Di ba 3 ang subjects na spaghetti straps, ung isa at pants, kaya ARE ang tamang gamitin na linking verb. Alam mo Carla maski Spaghetti Straps lang or Pants ang sabihin mo eh ARE pa rin dapat ang verb dahil obviously plural na rin sila. You don’t say “pant” dahil ibig sabihin nun eh kalahati lang ng pantalon. At tsaka lahat ba ng Filipinos eh nagspa-spaghetti strap tuwing summer? Sabihin mo nga sakin? Kaya dapat Filipinas ang gamit mo or Filipino Women hindi Filipinos. ‘Wag mong lahatin.. Poor answer.

Q: Who/What is the most popular band/pop star?

CB: We, Filipinos are really fond of music and there are a lot of bands that are popular in my country like the Side A band, The Freestyle, the South Borders.

- Dapat eh IS ang ginamit mo imbis na ARE nang sinabi mong “there are a lot” dahil obviously singular ang “a lot”. At hija, South Border lang yun. Though marami sila eh South Border pa rin ang name ng band nila.

Q: What is the most popular movie in your country RIGHT NOW?

CB: There are a lot of popular movies in my country, number one is the poreign movies like the “Independence Day”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Titanic!”, that is one of the most famous movies we had in the Philippines.

-POREIGN???? Haahahahaha...!!! Again punding pundi na ako sa “there are a lot” mo at maling subject-verb agreement. At isa pa napaka linaw ng tanong… popular pa ba ngayon ang Independence Day? Saving Private Ryan? Titanic? Alam kong taga-Pampangga ka pero juice ko pong pineapple naman, hindi na showing ang mga palabas na yan sa Pamapangga. Hindi naman ganon ka-late ang pag-show ng movies dun di ba? Kaya ang lesson eh makinig ng maiigi. Teka, mag hearing aid ka kaya??

Q: What is the most popular TV show in your country right now?

CB: The most popular TV show in my country right now is a game show; it’s called Eat Bulaga. Hehe!

-Hindi po game show ang Eat Bulaga, though marami silang games eh Variety Show ang tawag sa kanya.

Q: What is the typical food dish in your country?

CB: Well, like here in Panama we also have the Lechon. You call it lechon here and we have lechon in the Philippines it’s exactly the same in the Philippines although the sauce is sweet compared to here it’s a little bit salty.

- Typical food ba ang lechon dito? Eh tuwing may party lang naman may lechon eh except kung mayaman- eh di naman mayaman karamihan ng Pilipino. Nagpaparty ka ba araw-araw or typically ba eh may lechon kayo sa bahay? At sa comparison mo sa sauce… hindi ka ba marunong gumamit ng degrees of Adjectives na superlative etc.. sana eh sinabi mong sweeter. Dapat yata eh bumalik ka sa Grade 3, dahil doon ko natutunan ang pag-compare. Another poor response, hindi ka pwedeng mag-manage ng restaurant maski siguro Carinderia.



Q: What is the biggest tourist attraction in your country?

CB: The biggest attraction we Filipinos consider is the Banaue Rice Terraces because the Banaue Rice Terraces is a terraces of rice that was made by are natives that we call the Ifugaos and it was done by their bare hands without technology and everything and it’s considered one of the greatest attractions in the whole world. And you cannot find it in any other countries only in the Philippines.

- “Is a terraces of rice”??????? grabe halos malaglag ako sa aking kinauupuan nang marinig ko yan… hindi ka lang naging tunog-pilosopo, mali pa ang subject verb agreement mo! At syempre naman dito lang matatagpuan yun, hindi ka naman siguro mas boba pa para mag banggit ng attraction sa ibang bansa.



Q: What is the most popular sport in your country?

CB: The most popular sport in my country is basketball. You will see a lot of people playing basketball even in streets.

-In fairness, passable ‘to.

Q: What is your country known for?

CB: The Philippines is most known for for its people because the people are hospitable and second is that we do very, very good lanterns. These lanterns for Christmas and sometimes we export them so they are very bright and colorful.

- Hindi na-doble ang for ko, talagang dalawang beses sinabi ni Carla ang for. “we export them so they are very bright and colorful.”??? Anak naman ng pating, kaya ba naging makulay ang lantern dahil ini-export??? Grabe na toh Carloka….kaka-loka ka talaga!

Q: What is the biggest misconception about your country?

CB: The biggest misconception about the Philippines is about the terrorists and everything. What I can say is the Philippines is made out of 7,107 islands and maybe only two of its islands are considered by the terrorists and I can say that there are still 7,105 islands left for us, for everyone to have fun and see the beauty of my country.

- “Terrorists and everything”???? Everything in the Philippines is misunderstood??? I know that’s not what you mean pero Carloka, mag form ka naman ng mas malinaw na sentence. Again mali-mali rin ang grammar dito, sumasakit na ang ulo ko sa pagko-correct ng bako-bako mong English. Bumalik ka na lang sa Elementary.

Q: Who is the most influential woman in your country?

CB: Right now the most influential people uhhh.. women in my country are Corazon Aquino and the President right now is Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

-At last tama ang subject-verb agreement pero dapat wala ng is before GMA.

Q: What is the best time to visit your country?

CB: Everyday is the best time to visit the Philippines cause there are different places with different weathers. It’s a tropical country but there are parts that are cold uhh… that are way north and by south or middle part of my country is like hot and like Panama the weather like Panama is hot and humid and you will have fun with all the beaches there and specially the Baguio is really cold, for those people who love cold places.

-Que Horrorrrrrrrrrrr…Why would you invite someone who loves cold places to a tropical country? Even if you suggested Baguio eh maraming mas malamig pa sa Baguio, Ineng. Sana sa Antartica mo na lang inimbita. Poor, poor, poor answer…May plano kang maging Secretary of Tourism di ba?? All I can say is good luck.. eh baka pag-uwi mo dito eh malampaso ang pagmumuka mo ni Dick Gordon sa inudoro sa mga pinagsasabi mo sa interview mo.

Q: Tell everyone something in your native language.

CB: Iniimbitahan ko kayong manood dito sa Panama for the Miss Universe 2003. Salamat po at sana mag-enjoy kayong lahat!

-Salamat at tapos na ang interview…Matatanggap ko pa kung iilan lang ang grammatical errors ni Carloka. Pero napaka-rami. BPCI, kung magsesend rin kayo ng boboba-boba eh yung maganda na. Mayron pa akong nakitang pamangkin niya raw. Lah di da…. Mukhang natutulog ka ata Madam Choray at ang mga iba mo pang madam, ay ganon din. Tutoo ngang madaming mga post na mga pictures rito pero wala na ang excitement. Wala naman ang balitaktakan. Hay naku, akala ko pa naman e mga Inday Garutay kayo. Mga tsismak kayo. At mga ek ek kalachuchu kayo. Ek ek chuva chuachuchu kayo. Was pala kayong ek ek. Kaya ikaw Madam Choray na Reyna ng mga Chorizo. Gumising ka. At patayuin mo lahat ang mga natutulog na …..na…..na….damdamin para meron namang excitement ang lahat ng pumapasyal rito. Akala mo siguro kung ano ang patatayuin mo ano? Oy bawal patayuin ang mga chorizo de bilbao ng mga men mo. If I know, iniwanan ka ng men mo kaya ka down and out ngayon. O kaya ano ba ang mga pinaggagawa mo ngayong mga panahon? Bwusy vah sa iyong career? O balita ko namumulubi ka na raw at sumama ka na sa mga taong grasa sa kalye? Ay naku, Madam Choray, gising na sa iyong pagkakahimlay. Baka sa paggising mo mas sikat na ako sa iyo. O di vah?

Pero Madam, wag mo na namang sabihing naggagaya ako sa style mo ha. Ganito rin lang akong magsulat. Kung ikaw nga noon ay napagkamalan kang ikaw si John Lapuz at Mariang Makiling, ako fah kaya? Pero kuwidaw ka, eto lang masasabi ko sa iyo. Mas maganda ako sa iyo. Mas bata. Mas malasa. Mas masabaw. At mas seksing tingnan. O tingnan natin kung hihirit ka pa.

At ikaw naman Madam Chaka Khan, kung akala mo maganda ka rin tulad ni Madam Choray, mag-ingat ka dahil naririnig ko sa paligid na ikaw ay isang Dakma Queen. Ay ewan, dakma queen ba dafat ang itatawag sa iyo. Kasi balita ko pala ikaw ang dinadakma. Naku ha. Ganyan ka ba bountiful?Ah ewan, pero pinag-uusapan ka ng mga kasamahan ko rito. Isa ka raw walang fez ( as in mukha loka) pero malusog daw ang lahat sa iyo. Harapan at saka likuran. Tutoo ba eto? Hala, magsavi ka nga ng tutoo. Savihin……wag magdeny…….kundi, isusumbong kita kay Chenelyn.

At ikaw naman Little Madam Butterfly. Ano ba naman ang drama mo sa buhay? Well, ganyan talaga ang tagsibol. Kung saan ang kati doon ka. O di vah. Kung saan ka masaya doon ka. Huwag mong isipin ang sasabihin ng iba. Pumunta ka sa kung saan mo gusto. If you don't try and feel for yourself yang mga tsika-tsika na yan e wah ka maabot. As in o di vah. Naiintindihan mo naman siguro ang ibig kong sabihin ano.

O sige, ito ang first salvo ko sa inyong MB. Dito ko gustong simulan ang chika career ko. Malay mo, maging sikat din ako tulad ng ivah diyan. O di vah?

The likeable Miss Philippines, Carla Balingit, compared Panama with its country, to be surrounded by sea, whereas the tica, Andrea Obaner did not stop to teach its smile to the photographers.


To the 6:15 a.m. a group of delegates, 8 to be exact, maquilladores and members of the organization Miss Univer, coffee in hand, took a bus course to the province from Columbus, to make photos in exotic leases.

The young people enjoyed the route in the Panama Railway Channel and arrived very early in the morning in a bus of Adventures 2000 being received by the Director of Trade of the railroad, Thomas Kenna, with flatteries like a stock market and caps that showed the logo of the train.

The offerers traveled in a wagon with considered glass ceiling a peculiarity in the world of the railroads because she was made in 1938 in the United States. The landscape throughout the 47 miles that the Panama Canal crosses, astonished to the young people as well as to the photographers and camarógrafos of the North American chain Telemundo. The sluices, the Court Snake, the Bridge of Gamboa, the Gatún Lake and the always present rainy forests raised astonishment between the passengers.

When arriving at Columbus they were transferred in buses that transported it to Portobelo, place that it enamored to some with the offerers. THE HAPPIEST WOMAN IN THE UNIVERSE: No, I'm not talking about Jennifer Lopez. I'm talking about Miss Venezuela Mariángel Ruiz who has been given the okay to participate in the pageant after all. Gustavo Cisneros, a wealthy Venezuelan businessman, will probably be elected as Venezuela's Man of the Year for uplifting his countrymen's spirits and fulfilling a young woman's dream. Cisneros' declaration of this good news is published in the Miss Venezuela site. I translated the first paragraph to give our English-speaking readers a little clue of this amazing turn of events:



"I spoke with the President of Panama who insisted on the great importance of Miss Venezuela's participation in Miss Universe. Panama is celebrating its centennial anniversary, a date that is vital for all of Latin America, thus, we have decided that the Cisneros Organization commits itself of bringing Mariángel Ruiz to that beautiful country. The historical relationship between Panama and Venezuela obliges us to make our best effort to allow this beautiful girl to participate, to show one more time that the Venezuelan woman is beautiful and intelligent," declared Cisneros. This decision is also a tribute to the Latin American woman represented with dignity by Mireya Moscoso."
The Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional confirmed Ruiz's participation. Reuters has this little write-up about Ruiz's reaction:


A tearful Ruiz told local television in Caracas she was delighted. "I've just been told that I will be going to Miss Universe after all ... and it's one of the most exciting moments of my life, she said. I started running around the house collecting clothes, because I didn't have anything ready ... I have to be there by Wednesday," she added.


However, as I write this entry (11:10 p.m. EST, 5/19), none of the major Panamanian papers has mentioned the news. Earlier this afternoon, I received an e-mail from Carlos Fernandez, President Paula Shugart's executive assistant. Carlos confirmed that the preliminary judges will indeed select fifteen semi-finalists, but he didn't mention Ruiz's participation. We will only believe when Ruiz has actually arrived in Panama. With Venezuela's participation, we fans have now to change our Top Ten list and definitely include Venezuela on it! So say goodbye to that country (that would have replaced Venezuela) because Venezuela is back in the game, baby!

Let us not burn bridges. Let us not confine ourselves to "Our New World" instead let us explore and re-visit "World" of others. We should not erect walls. Let us reach out to others message boards. Regardless of our faith and religions, class or strata of society we belong, communities or group we are affiliated, we should help and support others. Usap-usapan ng lahat at na-post pa sa orange MB na ang winnah sa swimsuit ay ang candidate number 20. Pero noong pageant night ay tinawag ang candidate numbere 13. Naloka ang lahat. Palakpakan ang mga fans ng lola sheryl cruz. Naku nakita kong pumalakfak ang lolang maganda. Ano vah yan!!! Parang tuwang-tuwa dahil hindi ang Samson ang nanalo kundi ang tulad rin niyang BE bet na si Natalie Tarin.

Tiningnan ko ang lugar ng mga fans ng Ate kong eto at parang tuwang-tuwa pa rin sila sa di pagkakapanalo ng Samson. O di vah!!!! Me lavan ka? Mukhang ang dalawang eto ang pinagsasabong sa loob ang AFP theater ah.

Sumunod ang evening gown parade. Yan mabilisan na naman ang rampahan. Naku, nagpakita na naman ang ate ninyo ng galing sa pagrampa. Win na naman siya sa long gown. Paano naman po kasi mananalo ang lola Lesley ninyo ay parang flag ho ng kung anong country ang damit niya? Akala ko ang pinakamagandang gown ang ipapasuot sa lola ninyo eto at isusubsub daw niya ang lola Sheryl Cruz ninyo sa ganda ng gown. Eto ang ang pinakaexciting na bahagi ng titah! Noong itinawag na ang Top 10. Siyempre tutok ang lahat sa lola ninyong si sheryl cruz at lesley. Nakasagot ang lola sheryl cruz ninyo pero di masyadaong emphatic. Naglabasan ang mga scores. Matataas ang lahat maliban sa dalwang judges. At alam ninyo ang scores? 71 at 77. What can you say about the stage design of the Miss Universe 2003 Pageant in Panama??? For me I think, it's somewhat like that of Miss Universe 1994. With the background of the waterfalls at the current stage design, they almost have the same concept of the Miss Universe 1994 with the background of the famous tourist spots in the Philippines. But let's hope that the production of the Miss Universe 2003 will be spectacular and it will surpass last year's production in Puerto Rico. Let's the MISS UNIVERSE FEVER begins!!! VIVA PANAMA!

The Miss Universe Organization confirmed today that Venezuela will not be represented at this year's competition being broadcast June live on June 3rd in Panama. Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization, announced today that she received a letter on the morning of May 14 from Venevision on behalf of the Miss Venezuela Organization stating that it's impossible for them to send a delegate to participate on this year's contest. The letter further stated that this decision was made after exhausting all options and despite the joint efforts of Venevision and the Miss Universe Organization. The letter concluded with a note that hopefully the political and economic situation in Venezuela will allow them to participate in next year's pageant. Shugart added, "We are all saddened that Mariangel Ruiz, Miss Venezuela 2003, will not be participating. Venezuela has a strong following and the country's absence this year will be deeply felt". The 52nd Annual Miss Universe Pageant is scheduled to air live on NBC June 3rd, at 9:00 pm EST. (GLOBAL BEAUTIES).

Hello po sa inyong lahat...kami po ang kambal na dalaginding na nagmula sa maliit na baryo "Maaliw" at sa barangggay "Kapokpokan".....kami po ay nagbabalak pumunta sa maynila upang makipag sapalaran dahil baka sakilng ang aming suwerte ay naroon....sabi po ng kaibigan namin na mayaman na ngayon dahil sya raw po ang "SUPERSTAR" sa isang club na ang pangalan ay "KUTITAP"....sabi po nya ay ipapasok nya raw po kaming "G.R.O".....ano raw po iyo isang tagasalubong sa mga bisita at iuupo lang daw namin sila sa table nila...napakadali namang pong trabaho iyon....pero kaya heto po kami naghahanap ng mapaglilibangan at kami po ay napadpad sa MB na ito....maari po ba kaming makigulo sa inyo?.....kakaunti lang po ang aming kaalaman sa patimpalak ng kagandahan ngunit kami po ay maraming nalaman tungkol sa mga chismis ng aming mga kapitbahy...hi hi hi....sana po kami ay inyong tanggapin...maraming salamat po....

Carla already arrived in Panama City today, after the delegates from Japan and Argentina have arrived yesterday. Carla like most of the delegates who have arrived was friendly to the press. If anyone has any pictures of Carla's arrival, please post it ASAP!!!
