Sorry for taking so long to reply. It's been very busy here.

In your original post you didn't say they were GSD x wolf. Just a Czech wolfdog. Now I understand the reason for the comparison with the GSD.

"I would be careful before I kicked sand in the face of a wolf! Define your criteria."

You already defined it when you were talking about comparing stamina between the WD with the GSD. I don't believe that I am kicking sand in the face of a wolf. I admire and appreciate wolves for what they are, wolves. Not working dogs or even companion dogs for that matter. Wolves and possibly other canids evolved for more than 10,000 yrs into what we now have. The domesticated dog. Just as ape has evolved into man. The difference being that there aren't people out there trying to mix a gorilla with a human to get a stronger offspring. At least I hope not :)

Some have evolved into dogs that are highly specialized and unique in their abilities. You mentioned that the Czech wolf dog ran for 40 km. The Alaskan sled dog is an incredible animal with an extraordinary amount of endurance. During the Iditarod they can PULL a sled for
over 160 km (roughly 100 miles) per day for 11 days in a row! These dogs don't run because they have to, they run because it feels good to them. It feels better to run than to sit still.

"Which is more fit in a biological sense animal?"

If you mean which can survive on it's own in the wild then the answer is obvious. On the otherhand, which has more endurance? The answer is also obvious.

"Genetically wolves and traditional sled dogs are very close."

Genetically wolves and chihuahuas are just as close. Phenotypically there is a big difference between the breeds, but the genes are all very close.

"In a certain sense your sled dog vs. wolf scenario would be like comparing wolves to wolves."

Yes, and in a certain sense an ape and a human are the same as well. Well at least when relating it to a jellyfish.
But that hardly means that they are the same thing. Or even close.

"Did you know that the taxonomy for wolves has changed? Dogs, wolves, coyotes are all one species now: Canis Familiaris."

I didn't know that. Where did you see that?
