David, who performed the study of the Czech wolfdogs vs. the GSDs? A skeptic, eh. I don't know but I should have the answer in a day or so.

I'm curious as to why they would do a study on stamina comparisons with a GSD instead of say the Alaskan sled dogs. ***Sorry, I thought it was pretty obvious, they wanted to see if there was any residual vigor from the GSD X Wolf cross that comprised the Ch.WD as compared to the purebred GSD. Turns out there was. They were trying to compare apples to, insofar as possible, apples. They weren't trying to pit the fastest pure wolf against the fastest dog. How would you determine which was the fastest wolf, anyway? Any one you could catch would probably NOT be the fastest.

A far superior animal to the wolf and the GSD in that sense. One example is that some native Alaskans have unsuccessfully tried mixing wolves into their lines to achieve a better performance.****In terms of superiority or far superiority for that matter I would be careful before I kicked sand in the face of a wolf! Define your criteria.
Which would you rather be hunted by a sled dog or a wolf?

I know what you mean, which animal would have greater O2 transfer capability a wolf which has the full, diverse complement of genes which comprise him or a sled dog which a narrow slice of the same genes which have been artificially selected for sled pulling traits.
In raw speed which is faster? It would be interesting to know. Which is the more fit, in a biological, sense animal? The wolf, no doubt.

Genetically wolves and traditional sled dogs are very close. In a certain sense your sled dog vs. wolf scenario would be like comparing wolves to wolves.

Wolves are generalists as are BB for that matter IMO.

No self-respecting wolf would be caught pulling a sled.

Did you know that the taxonomy for wolves has changed? Dogs, wolves, coyotes are all one species now: Canis Familiaris.
