And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall there with a sign. 夏天的漂鳥飛來我的窗前歌唱又飛走了.而那無歌的,秋天的黃葉,隨風飄落以 一聲歎息. 二. O Troupe of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words. 世上流浪兒的隊伍啊, 願留你們的足跡在我的話語之中. 三. The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover. It becomes small as one song,as one kiss of the eternal 這世界面對它的戀人脫下"巨大"這個面具.它變得微小如歌,如永恆 的吻. 註:翻譯成"巨大"這個假面才是對的,而非巨大的假面. 四. It is the tear of the earth that keep her smiles in bloom. 因著大地的淚水,使她的微笑常開不謝. 五 The might desert is buring for the love of a blade of grass who shakes her head and laugh and flies away 廣闊的大漠正為著對一片草葉的愛而燃燒,縱然,草葉輕搖她的頭,微微笑,便飛逝了 六 If you shed tears when you miss the sun,you also miss the stars 如果你因為錯失陽光而流淚,你也將錯失群星 七 The sands in your way beg for your song and your movement,dancing water Will you carry the burden of their lamenness 在你旅途中的泥沙乞求你的謳歌,流動的水啊.你會載動它們跛足的負荷嗎 八. Her wistful face haunt my dreams like the rain at night. 她充滿渴望的容顏縈繞在我的夢際,如夜雨一般. 九 Once we dreamt that we were strangers. We wake up to find that we were dear to each other. 我們曾夢見我們是陌生人.夢醒時,我們發現彼此原是相親相愛. 十. Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart like the evening among the silent trees. 我心中的悲傷已歸平靜,如寂靜林中的向晚. 十一. Some unseen fingers,like an idle breeze,are playing upon my heart the music of the ripple 不知是誰的纖纖玉指,像一陣悠閒的微風,在我心頭上彈奏著漣波般的音樂. 十二. “What language is thine,O Sea?” “The language of eternal question.” “What language is tht answer,O Sky?” “The language of eternal silence.” 大海啊,你說的是甚麼話語呢? 我說的話語是永恆的問 晴空啊,妳的回答是甚麼話語呢？ 我說的是永恆的沉默. 十三 Listen,my heart,to the whispers of the world with which it makes love to you 我的心靈啊,請傾聽這世界的低語,它以此向你示愛呢！ 十四. The mystery of creation is like the darkness of night---it is great Delusions of knoweledge are like the fog of morning. 造物的神秘如同黑夜一般----偉大 知識的幻覺猶如晨霧. 十五. Do not seat your love upon a precipice because it is high 勿將你的愛置於懸岩絕壁之上,因為它太高. 十六. I sit at my window this morning where the world like a passer-by stops for a moment, nods to me and goes. 今天早晨我坐在窗前,世界像過客般,在窗前停留片刻,對我點頭然後離去. 十七. These little thoughts are the rustle of leaves; they have their whisper of joy in my mind. 這些微細的思緒如葉片的沙沙作響,它們在我的心頭有著歡樂的低語呢喃. 十八. They throw their shadows before them who carry their lantern on their back 將燈籠背負在背上的人們, 他們將影子投射到身前來. 二二 That I exist is a perpetual surprise which is life 我的存在是一個永恆的驚喜, 生命本就是驚喜. 二三 “We, the rustling leaves, have a voice that answers the storm, but who are you, so silent?” “I am a mere flower” 我們是沙沙作響的葉片,以這聲音應答著暴風,但你是誰啊你為何如此沉默 我只是一朵花. 二四 Rest belongs to the work as the eyelids to the eye. 休息之於工作如眼瞼之於眼睛. 二五. Man is a born child, his power is the power of growth. 人如初生的嬰孩,他的力量就是成長的力量. 註child應是小孩不過初生應用infant.難到泰戈爾英文不太好嗎 二六 God expects answers for the flowers he sends us , not for the sun and the earth 上帝期待的對送給我們花朵的回應, 並非送給我們的陽光與土地. 二七 The light that plays,like a naked child,among green leaves happily knows not that man can lie 陽光在綠葉間嬉戲像赤子一般.多麼幸福啊,它不知人世的虛詐. 二八 O Beauty, find thyself in love, not in the flattery of thy mirror. 啊 !美麗,你當在愛中尋找妳自己,不應該在諂媚鏡子中尋. 二九 My heart beats her waves at the shore of the world and writes upon it her signature in tears with the words, ”I love thee.” 我心悸動激起波浪拍打世界的海岸,在岸上以淚留下她的簽名並寫著這樣的話語 ---------我愛你. 三十 “Moon,for what do you wait?” “To salute the sun from whom I must make way.” 月娘啊,妳等待著甚麼 為了向我所必須讓路的太陽問候 註 salute是法文.重逢的問候語. 三一 The tree come up to my window like the yearning voice of the dumb earth. 樹木伸到我的窗前,如瘖啞的大地發出渴慕的聲音. 三二 His own mornings are new surprise to God. 祂所創造的每一個清晨,對自己都是新的驚喜. 三三 Life finds its wealth by the claims of the world, and its worth by the claims of love. 生命因為世人的需求而豐饒富有,因為愛的需求而發現它的價值. 三四 The dry river-bed finds no thanks for its past. 乾凅的河床無法從它的過去尋找出感謝. 三五. The bird wishes it were a cloud. The cloud wishes it were a bird 鳥兒但願牠是一片雲 雲彩但願它是一隻鳥. 三六 The waterfall sings, ”I find my song,when I find my freedom.” 瀑布唱著:當我發現到我的自由也是我尋著我的歌的時候. 三七 I cannot tell why this heart languishes in silence. It is for small needs it never asks,or knows or remenbers. 我不知道我的心為甚麼總是說著沉默的話語. 是為了它從不要求的,不懂的或不復記憶的小小的欲求 三八 Woman when you move about in your household service,your limbs sing like a hill stream among its pebbles. 女人啊,當妳來回操持家務時,妳的舉手投足如山澗在小卵石間輕歌. 三九 The sun goes to cross the Western sea, leaving its last salutation to the East 太陽跨往西天的海,留予東方以最後的問候. 四十 Do not blame your food because you have no appetite. 不要因為你自己沒有食慾而責怪食物. 四一 The tree, like the longings of the earth, stand a tiptoe to peep at the heaven 樹木,像是大地的渴慕,踮著腳尖向天堂窺探. 四二 You smiled and talked to me of nothing and I felt that for this I had been waiting long. 你微笑卻甚麼都沒對我說.然而我覺得我為這等了好久好久. 四三 The fish in the water is silent, the animal on the earth is noisy, the bird in the air Is singing. But Man has in him the silence of the sea, the noise of the earth and the music of the air. 水中魚而很恬靜,陸上的動物喧鬧,空中的鳥兒正在歌唱. 但人有海的沉默,陸地的喧鬧與空中的音樂--在他之中. 四四 The world rushes on over the strings of the lingering heart making the music of sadness. 這世界摧迫著倉惶的心弦,它創作起憂傷的樂曲 四五 He has made his weapons his gods. When his weapons win he is defeated himself. 將武器視做神明者,當他的武器戰勝時他被自己所打敗. 四六 God finds himself by creating. 上帝藉由找到自己. 四七 Shadow, with her veil drawn, follows Light in secret meekness, with her silent steps of love. 影子披著她的面紗, 神祕的輕柔追隨著”光”�以她靜謐的愛的步履. 四八 The stars are not afraid to appear like fireflies 星星不害怕以螢火蟲的形象出現. 四九 I thank thee that I am non of the wheels of power but I am one with th eliving creatures that are crushed by it. 感謝上天我不是權利巨輪的一員,但我與被這巨輪碾碎的生靈同在. 五十 The mind,sharp but not broad,sticks at every point but does not move. 心思敏銳而視界不開闊者,執著於細微末節而不知推移. 五一 Your idol is shattered in to dust to prove that God’s dust is greater than your idol 你的偶像已在塵埃中粉碎,這證明了上帝的塵埃遠大過你的偶像. 註:這句似乎是說任何偶像都將化為塵埃.你的偶像之塵埃比上帝為小.但若將上帝視為偶像也必將粉碎. 五二 Man does not reveal himself in his history,he struggles up through it 人在他的生命的歷程中不露痕跡,他只是在其中掙札奮力而上. 五三 While the glass lamp rebukes the earthen for calling its cousin,the moon rises, And the glass lamp, with a bland smile, Call her,---“My dear,dear sister.” 當玻璃燈斥責陶土燈與它稱兄道弟時月亮升起. 玻璃燈以殷勤的的笑容呼喚她---“親愛的,我親愛的姐妹” 五四 Like the meeting of seagulls and the waves we meet and come near. The seagulls fly off, the waves roll away and we depart 如同海鷗與海浪的相遇與親近.海鷗飛走了海浪也越捲越遠, 我們也就分開了. 五五 My day is done, and I am like a boat drawn on the beach, listening to the dance-music of the tie in the evening 我一日的工作已然成全,我像一艘被拖上岸的小舟, 傾聽向晚潮汐的舞樂. 五六 Life is given to this, we earn it by giving it. 上蒼賜予我們生命,我們要將生命付出更多才真正能獲得它. 五七 We come nearest to the great when we are great in humanity. 我們在謙卑時所顯現的偉大, 最近乎偉大. 五八 The sparrow is sorry for the peacock at the burden of its tail. 燕子為孔雀屏尾的負擔而感到可憐. 五九 Never be afraid of the moments---thus sings of voice of the everlasting. 不要害怕短暫的”剎那”---它是如此的唱著永恆的聲音 水月註:一念之間有九十剎那.人或許可以虛度一生,但心頭總有抹不去的 身影.一生的醞釀豈不是為這剎那的感動. 六十. The hurricane seeks the shortest road by the no-road, and suddenly ends its search in the Nowhere. 龍捲風以無道路尋找最近的道路,不知在何處倏然終止它的搜尋. 六一 Take my wine in my own cup, friend. It loses its wreath of foam when poured in to that of others. 朋友,請就我的酒杯飲酒吧,倒到別人的酒杯它便失去冠冕般的沫環. 六二. The Perfect decks itself in beauty for the love of the imperfect. 完美是因著對不完美的愛戀所以才以美麗裝扮自己. 六三 God says to man,”I heal you,therefore I hurt,love you, therefore punish.” 上帝對人們說”我要治癒你所以要傷你,因為我愛你,所以要懲罰你. 六四. Thank the flame for its light,but do not forget the lampholder standing In the shade with constancy of patient. 感謝燈燄的光明,但請不要忘記那佇立於陰影中以堅定耐心的燈臺. 六五 Tiny grass, your steps are small, but you possess the earth under your tread. 小草啊,你的步伐雖小,但你擁有你腳下的大地. 六六 The infant flower opens its bud and cries, ”Dear World, please do not fade 初開之花綻放她的蓓蕾叫著�“親愛的這世界啊,請你不要凋謝” 六七 God grow weary of great kingdom, but never of little flowers. 上帝會對龐大的王國生起厭惡之心, 卻永不厭棄弱小的花朵. 六八 Wrong cannot afford defeat but Right can. 錯誤(邪惡)經不起考驗,而正義經得起試煉. 六九 “I give my whole water in joy,” sings the waterfall, “though little of it enough for the thirsty.” 瀑布唱著---我以滿心愉悅奉獻我全部的水,雖然對渴望者一瓢已然足夠. 七十 Where is the fountain that throws up these flowers in a ceaseless outbreak of ecstasy? 以這無盡迸發的狂喜拋出這些花朵的泉源在哪裡呢. 七一 The woodcutter’s axe begged for its handle from the tree. The tree gave it. 伐木者的利斧向樹木乞求握柄,樹木便給了它． 七二 In my solitude of heart I feel the sign of this widowed evening veiled with mist and rain. 當我心孤獨時,我感覺到這失偶向晚的嘆息.這向晚啊它披著雨霧的面紗. 七三 Chastity is a wealth that comes form abundance of love. 貞節這財富是來自豐盈的愛 七四 The mist, like love , plays upon the heart of the hills and brings out surprises of beauty. 霧如愛一般,在心之群山上嬉戲,變幻出驚異的美. 七五 We read the world wrong and say that it deceives us. 我們錯認這世界卻說它欺騙了我們. 七六 The poet wind is out over the sea and the forest to seek his own voice 詩人之風穿過森林越過海洋,只為追尋自己的聲音. 七七 Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discourages of man. 每一個小孩的到來都帶來上帝尚未因人類感道沮喪. 七八 The grass seeks her crowd in the earth. The tree seeks his solitue of the sky. 綠草在泥土裡尋找夥伴 樹木向空中追尋孤獨. 七九 Man barricades against himself. 人們常自架路障,阻檔自己的去路. 八十 Your voice, my friend , wanders in my heart, like the muffled sound of the sea among these listening pines. 我的朋友啊,你的聲音徘徊在我心中,如海潮的低喃迴盪在這傾聽著的松林之間. 八一 What is the unseen flame of darkeness, whose sparks are the stars? 它的火花是那天上的繁星,那麼黑暗中看不見的火燄是甚麼呢 八二 Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves. 願生命如盛夏的花朵般美麗,死亡如秋天的落葉. 八三 He who wants to do good knocks at the gates; he who loves finds the gate open. 欲行善者敲扣大門;而愛行善者發現大門已然敞開 註:這便是want to do good與love to do good的不同. 八四 In death the many becomes one; in life the ones becomes many. Religion will be one when the God is dead. 死時紛歧合而為一,生時一化為分歧,當上帝死去時宗教便是那”一”． 八五 The artist is the lover of Nature, therefore he is her slave and her mater 藝術家是大自然的情人,所以他既是她的奴僕,又是她的主人. 八六 “How far are you from me, O fruit?” “I am hidden in your heart, O Flower.” 果子啊 你離我有多遠呢(花朵問果實) 我隱藏在你的心中啊,花兒啊 八七 This longing is for the one who is felt in the dark, but not seen in the day. 渴念只為那自覺處在黑暗中的人們存在,在白晝便不能得見. 八八 “You are the big drop of dew under the lotus leaf, I am the smaller one on its upper side,” said the dewdrop to the lake. 露珠向湖水訴說--”你是在荷葉之下的大露珠,而我是在荷葉上的小露珠. 八九 The scabbard is content to be dull when it protects the keenness of the sword. 劍鞘雖然保護劍的鋒利卻自足於鈍. 九十 In the darkness the On appears as uniform; in the light the One appear as monifold 在黑暗中”太一”以相同的面貌出現,在光明裡”太一”呈現出多元. 九一 The great earth makes herself hospitable with the help of grass. 大地以對小草的幫助體現她的廣大. 九二 The birth and death of the leaves are the rapid whirl of eddy whose wider circle moves slowly among the stars. 葉子的生滅如漩渦中湍急的漩流,漩渦較寬外環乃在群星之間緩慢流動. 九三 Power said to the world, “You are mine.” The world kept prisoner on her throne. Love said to the world, “I am thine.” The world gave it the freedom of her house. 權力對世界說”妳是我的” 世界將權力囚禁於她寶座之旁. 愛對世界說”我就是妳” 這世界與愛出入她家居的自由. 九四 The mist is like the earth’s desire. It hides the sun for whom she cries. 迷霧如大地的渴欲,當她乞求時它遮蔽了太陽. 九五 Be still , my heart, these great tress are prayers. 靜下來吧我的心,這些大樹是虔誠的祈禱者. 九六 The noise of moment scoffs at the music of the eternal. 剎那的喧鬧嘲笑永恆的樂章. 九七 I think other ages that floated upon the stream of life and love and death and are forgotten, and I feel the freedom of passing away. 我想起在生命.愛與死的巨流中沉浮的那世世代代,我便體會死的自在. 九八 The sadness of my soul is her bride’s veil. It waits to be lifted in the night. 我靈魂的憂傷如新娘的面紗.在夜裡它等著被揭起. 註:前面也說過憂傷常在夜裡, 白晝便化為無形. 九九 Death’s stamp gives value to the coin of life; making it possible to buy with life what is truly precious. 死亡的印記賦予生命之錢幣的價值;使得以生命換取真正珍貴的事物成為可能.
