The Dougie Report. (for Ms. Mimi). So I have been watching our husband's scifi show which is kind of entertaining -- velociraptors at large in a shopping mall, that sort of thing -- and which I would have LOVED when I was about ten or twelve. Not sure I quite see our Dougie as the gritty big-guns action hero type... but then, why not!?? 'Cause, well... those lips...and the general slightly-disheveled-fell-out-of-a-Tiepolo-painting-somewhere appeal, undiminished. Why am I always surprised when a celebrity is inconsistent and a complete hypocrite? Mel Gibson, who did the Passion of the Christ, and insisted that everyone on the set attend daily mass(in latin), is divorcing his wife to marry his pregnant girlfriend. Ho hum, another celebrity who says:"Do as I say not as I do!"

- I felt that his extreme behavior relating to the Passion film was so off and weird - and yet this is even more disappointing, because his marriage seemed like a saving grace (ha!) for him - now he's just another hypocrite, like you said. And yes, Amy - you're right that they'd need an annulment, but I don't think that it would be granted once children have been produced...but I'm not positive on that - I grew up learning that an annulment was almost impossible to grant - yet I ended up knowing *two* couples whose marriages were annulled. I went with my daughter to see the new Star Trek movie yesterday. It's fabulous. I'm not a "trekkie", but I did enjoy the TV show when it was in syndication and have enjoyed the subsequent movies of which "The Wrath of Khan" was the best. To see the crew as young and just starting out was a real treat. The story line was very clever. The special effects were superb but didn't take over the movie.
There was excitement, tension and laughter. And yes, when Leonard Nimoy is saying "Space, the final frontier, these are the voyages of the starship Enterprise.............I cried.

ANGELS AND DEMONS -- Liz, 05/18/09 9:33am
Saw ANGELS AND DEMONS this weekend. Loved it. I thought this book was better than The DaVinci Code, and the movie is better, too. Fast paced. All the usual churches, sculptures, and symbols. A great inside look at the Vatican. As a Catholic, I also didn't feel it was anti-Catholic. It had a beautiful ending. Fabulous soundtrack. Hard to tell who are the good guys and the bad guys until the very end. I would almost pay to see it again. It's so fast paced, I'm sure I missed stuff.

Been a while - but I've been travelling. Nothing terribly exiting, just going to various points CONUS sometimes exercising my questionable skills at powerpoint presentations, and pushing conversation to goals.

Got back, (Thursday) and the small crowd I was running with insisted that we visit a local joint before heading home. I called home and gave instructions on my pickup point being changed, and allowed myself to be dragged off.

Arrived, and found several folks I had never seen before being introduced to me; some of my group were acquainted with some of the already seated. The 'joint' was one of those half outdoor places pretending not to be part of a shopping mall, with elaborate iron garden furniture on what was once a sidewalk, looking onto a parking lot disguised with trees. Lovely. I picked an empty seat, near the wall, and plonked my tired arse down beside a gentleman who vaguely reminded me of John Hurt sans accent. No, John Hurt of 1984 fame, not Mississippi John Hurt. Tweedy type, without the tweed.

Gradually through the course of conversation - some with him - got a rather odd impression of Something Unsaid. Conversation in the group started in on Treacherous Bankers, and Tweedy focused on me. Told me about McChrystal's coming appointment. Told me a number of other things that are springing out in the news, this week. Asked me if I enjoyed my job. Asked me what I thought of a list of military programs he rattled off; I said that I'd heard of some of them, but didn't want to discuss due to their nature. Asked me another question that I didn't quite hear (jet flying overhead) - and gave a wheezy clenched teeth giggle when I asked him to repeat it. Asked me what I thought of the demonstrated avarice (his word) in the population - I replied that I thought that a lot of people seem to think that posessions make them more important - another wheezy giggle. He asked me if I missed my dad; I hadn't mentioned him. At which point, thankfully, I spied Red at the periphery, and made my apologies and escaped.

I've been informed that I should expect a job offer. I have replied that I'm not interested, should one come. I don't like tests, particularly hidden ones from hidden people.

I saw Fred Claus on cable today - it was less stupid than I thought, with a surprisingly good cast.

I also caught part of the 2nd Narnia movie, and imagine my surprise when I heard Eddie's voice coming out of a mouse with a sword. It was a bit incongrous. He makes a better koala than he does a mouse, IMHO.

Munchkin Mickey Carroll Dead At 89

Mickey Carroll, one of the last surviving Munchkins from the movie The Wizard Of Oz, has died.

The former actor, born Michael Finocchiaro, died on Thursday, two months shy of his 90th birthday.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1919, Carroll's godfather was the infamous gangster Al Capone.

He landed his break as a teen when his mentor, entertainer Jack Haley, took Carroll to Hollywood and he was cast as Mickey in the Spanky and Our Gang TV and film series.

While under contract to MGM, he went to school with Judy Garland, who, legend has it, personally offered Carroll a role in 1939's The Wizard of Oz. He reportedly stayed with the actress during the making of the movie.

He quit showbusiness shortly after the film wrapped but often teamed up with the other Munchkins for anniversaries and celebrations.

- According to imdb.com he was the "violin playing munchkin". What's really sad (besides there being no more munchkins!) is that there is a dispute over his estate. His family is saying that his care-taker had him sign over his estate (worth over 1 million) to her when he wasn't in the state of mind to do so (due to dementia I think). I think the family may have a point~if in his right mind, why would he sign over his entire estate to a care-taker? Leave her something, but leave her everything?! Thought Gettysberg was pretty interesting. The soap container moving from one side of the sink to the other was very cool. That sound at 3:02 in the morning was never really explained either. I do like Chip, their psychic. He's so much more credible to me than Derek Acora ever was.

Happy Holidays everyone!! We are at long last emerging from winter here. Blue skies, grass starting to green up, bulbs starting to send their shoots up through the ground. After this past winter, I didn't think we would ever see spring again. Having the whole family here tomorrow. Easter Egg Hunt for Sammy, Lucy, and Teddy(also known as The Bear.)Teddy just had his first haircut. My son said he doesn't look like a baby anymore:he's changed into a little boy. Can't wait to see him. Enjoy the day and that gorgeous full moon that has been appearing on the horizon at night!

I know you've heard me discuss this before, but it has happened again. This time it's in our own backyard. Another college student has disappeared along the Mississippi River. Dan Zamien of University of St Thomas was walking on the River Boulevard Saturday night talking on a cel phone when he suddenly said:Oh my God. Where are you. Help me. When police were called, they discovered his footsteps in the snow, and then they disappeared. There is a whole task force working on these disappearances and murders. Many of the bodies are found near the water with a smiley face nearby. They are referring to whoever does this as the Smiley Face Killer. It's easy to get away with this. The police say: well they were drunk and just fell in the water. We had this happen in this same way two years ago with a University of Minnesota student. The parents hired their own private investigator who was able to prove it was murder after the cops blew them off. This kid was from the iron range, just 20 years old. He was also a Type I diabetic. The family is frantic.

Dr. Zahi Hawass is in the news again(there's a big surprise!) He's got a team excavating in Abusir, Egypt at the temple of Taposiris Magna looking for the tombs of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. They have found masks of both people in the temple and either radar or infrared is showing some deep burial shafts. He wants us to know that contrary to popular rumors, Cleopatra was NOT ugly but very beautiful according to the mask!

A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and added late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00 when she
died, but now somewhere around $60.00. A family member placed a call to Citibank.

Here is the exchange :

Family Member: 'I am calling to tell you she died back in January.'

Citibank: 'The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still apply.'

Family Member: 'Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.'

Citibank: 'Since it is two months past due, it already has been.'

Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?'

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better even though I have it!! Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder .
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water. I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed, the bills aren't paid, there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter, the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, I don't remember what I did with the car keys, and I'm wondering who the hell left the hose on outside all day.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Monty Python Stars To Reunite For Documentary Tribute

The remaining members of the Monty Python's Flying Circus comedy troupe are to reunite for an upcoming TV documentary tribute.

John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam have all agreed to appear in the six-episode Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer’s Cut), which will debut in America in October as part of cable network IFC's Python Week.

Following the TV run, the documentary will be released on DVD internationally.

Jones says, "This is the documentary I always hoped would be made - something so complete and so faithful to the truth that I don't need to watch it."

The series will "study the Pythons up close" and feature the thoughts of fans who are "rock stars, comedians, actors, politicians, writers, broadcasters, religious groups, Python-haters and potential axe murderers."

They will include Playboy boss Hugh Hefner, Eddie Izzard, Dan Aykroyd and Tim Roth.

IFC boss George Lentz says, "This is the first time the Pythons have come together for a project since 1983's Monty Python's Meaning of Life. This documentary series is a final opportunity for them to chronicle the Python phenomenon on record as they approach their 40th anniversary, and leave it at that."

Cleese might be the most unwilling participant - he recently declared he doesn't really like his former Python pals, joking, "One of them's alright - the little guy who does the very boring travel programmes (Michael Palin)... but the others are awful."

The documentary will also serve as a tribute to late Python star Graham Chapman, who lost his battle with cancer in 1989.
