Noone is saying what is happening is right, I'm just saying that that is the way that it is and it isn't going to change. Want to know how I know? I'll give you a prime example. CCSU has not had a person in charge of tickets and promotions for more than a year now. The position is sitting there and waiting, but noone at the school or the state will give the ok to hire anyone to fill that spot. This is a very important job that has gone unfilled for a very long time. I agree that the discrepancy is wrong, but history has shown that this is not going to change. My points have always been that we need to try and do better with what we have, not complain that we deserve more.

As for UConn being dependent on state money, that is not entirely true. All three BIG coaches make more than a million dollars a year, and that money is not paid by the state, it is paid for out of fundraising money. I know the state fund them tremendously (believe me I know), but they have also done an unbelievable job fundraising and helping to support themselves. The two new buildings they are putting up have all been privately funded.

As for bashing you, the negative comments on this board did not start until you started them. Check the board, this is not a negative board, but you are the one who used the word MORON first, I only responded to it. Don't expect others to sit back while you take shots at them and call them morons.

Insider - while I agree CCSU need to do better with what we have before asking for more $, you also pointed out that Central is playing with one hand tied behind their back (unfunded positions, etc.). How can CCSU maximize it programs when it it at a distinct disadvantage compared with other schools? In reality, only a few CCSU teams are really struggling and C.J. was recently quoted in the Courant that all teams (except MBB and WBB) are not fully funded with scholarships. The facilities need upgrades and the administartion is not fully staffed. To me that all sound like a question of funding. So if that is all true, what things do you think CCSU must improve at its current level of funding? Again, I don't expect to get what UConn gets in terms of funding, but a substainial increase is warranted, even if that means UConn gets a little less from the pie in future years.

Yes, today UCONN athletics is a big business supported by tons of revenue - enourmous ticket sales, local and CPTV television deals, Big East $, BCS $, tons of merchandising, huge corporate sponsorship, wealthy alumni funding, and of course, state support. The reason UConn currently has so much non-state revenue is becasue the state has invested heavily in past years and built the political support and infrastructure for their current success. We all know Calhoun's salary is not fully paid by the state, but the state provided the imputus to build a national program. Again, I am not lobbying for UConn-like funding, but instead a commitment from the state and the CSU system that it is a goal to make this the top REGIONAL program - and to do that CCSU needs more $. The history and success of UConn is a great thing, however this should not be done at the expense of Central.

Finally this is a board meant for free thoughts, and it is not a board for personal attackts (of posters, players, coaches, or administrators). I think it is healthly to disagree on any topic, but lets all remember to respect the opposing person's view. This is the perfect forum for any positive suggestions from posters or readers of this board to help CCSU improve its athletic program.
